How to Make Baked Creamy Chicken Taquitos
- Heat oven to 425℉.
- Line a baking sheet with foil. Lightly coat with cooking spray.
- Heat cream cheese in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds so that it is soft and easy to stir.
- Add green salsa, lime juice, cumin, chili powder, onion powder and garlic powder. Stir to combine.
- Then add cilantro and green onions.
- Add chicken and Pepper Jack cheese and combine well.
- Place 2-3 Tablespoons of chicken mixture on the lower third of a tortilla, keeping it about 1/2 inch from the edges and roll it up as tight as you can. Place seam side down on the baking sheet.
- Lay all of the filled taquitos on the baking sheet and make sure they are not touching each other. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray and sprinkle some salt on top.
- Place pan in oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until crisp and the ends start to get golden brown.
- Dip in creamy cilantro dressing if desired.
Recipe Tips
- Prepare the recipe earlier in the day. Cover and place in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake.
- Purchase a rotisserie chicken at the store, and remove all the chicken meat. Then, you do not need to deal with cooking chicken breasts. Rotisserie chicken has a delicious, seasoned taste to it.
- You can modify how much chicken or cheese in your taquito, add to your preference.
Freezer Meal Suggestions
Assemble taquitos, and freeze before baking. We put them all the rolled-up taquitos in a gallon-sized resealable freezer bag. They last in the freezer for up to 90 days. You can cook them from frozen in the oven. You might need to add a few minutes to your cooking time to make sure they are cooked through.

I’m gonna need to try these. They looks sooooooooo delicious!!!

Yum! I have a very similar recipe that we just love! Anything mexican is ok with me 😉
As soon as I see a recipe with the word “creamy” I am sold! Cannot wait to try!
Can you freeze this recipe? If so, would you cook it before freezing or after?
I made these for supper last night…..they were delicious! Definitely making a double batch next time! Warming some up for lunch right now.
Yumm!! I Can’t wait to try these!!
Cheers

I think that these would be awesome to freeze! And I think that you could do either- cook them before and then just reheat them, or assemble them, freeze them, and then cook them. I think that either way would work perfectly!
Just a tip… warm up those tortillas for 40 seconds in the microwave before folding!!! This keep them from breaking!!! 🙂
This looks delicious!
Yum, nothing better than homemade taquitos!! Well, at least, our family thinks so! Thanks for sharing at Foodtastic Friday.
Thanks so much for linking up to Talent Tuesday! You’re this week’s feature! This looks so yummy, I will most definitely have to try this soon!
You girlies rock!
These were deelish! Will definitely make again…Would like to find/figure out the nutritional info on them..They don’t seem to guilty
Hi..I was wondering if I could make these vegetarian…and just use beans and cheese instead of chicken…if so, would the instructions and cooking time be the same? thank you!
For the original recipe, the chicken was already cooked. It mainly needs to heat through and you want the tortilla to get browned and just barely crispy on the edges. It should be close to the same amount of cooking time. Just watch them closely.
Is there a recipe for your sauce to dip the Taquitos? Always love a great dipping sauce.
What is the recipe for the dipping sauce?
We love to dip these in Ranch dressing or Cilantro Ranch Dressing. Here is the recipe for Cilantro Ranch Dressing. You can find it here also – https://www.sixsistersstuff.com/recipe/2016/09/cafe-rio-steak-salad/

could these be made in an air fryer?
Air fryer cooks a lot faster than the oven, so you would need to watch them CLOSELY! But it should work.
What kind of green salsa do you use for these?
We like Herdez or any green salsa you find at your local grocery store.
You updated! I’ve been making this for many years like 8 years!
Still love it.
This is the first recipe I’ve tried from your website and I am hooked. I love to cook and this is seriously one of my favorite meals I’ve ever made. My entire family, 11 people, loved them. I made them exactly as you said only doubling the cheesy sauce inside. I topped mine with mashed avocado, sour cream, more green salsa, cilantro, lime juice and a side of Spanish rice. I am craving them and can’t wait to make them again. Thank you for my new favorite recipe!!!
Hi Angie. Thanks for leaving us such nice comments. We are so glad you liked the taquitos and the Samoas popcorn. They are both some of our favorites. Have a terrific week!
Made these tonight and we loved them. Used some rotisserie chicken I had vacuum-sealed in the freezer. I will definitely make these again. My husband could not stop raving about them. Thanks!
I haven’t made this yet, but will soon! Can this be done in the air fryer?
My friend brought these to a party over 10 years ago, and I’ve been taking them to parties ever since, always with great compliments. If you don’t have green salsa, you can easily swap it w Hatch’s green chilies, which I always have in the cupboard. Thanks for the great party recipe!
What is the serving size the nutritional information is based off. 1 taquito?
It makes about 20 and we usually serve a family of six with this recipe. About 3 taquitos per serving.
I am wondering about your nutrition information. Are you giving a per serving nutrition or for one taquito, or the whole recipe? It would be nice to know the specifics.
The nutritional information is per serving, so in this case it is the total ingredients divided by 6 (which makes between 3-4 taquitos per serving).
