We are big BBQ chicken lovers around here. I thought I would create a BBQ chicken recipe that even my picky 3 year old would go for. We devoured them so quickly, and my kids loved them. I dip mine in extra BBQ sauce, and my husband likes to dip his in ranch sauce. These taquitos are simple to make, inexpensive, and fun for kids.
Recipe Ingredient Notes
To make our baked BBQ chicken taquitos, you need the following ingredients:
- Olive oil
- Red onion
- Boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cooked and shredded)
- BBQ sauce
- Cilantro
- Mozzarella cheese
- Flour tortillas

How to Make Baked BBQ Chicken Taquitos
- Preheat oven to 400℉.
- In a large pan, warm olive oil over medium heat.
- Sauté onion in oil until soft. Add shredded chicken and BBQ sauce to pan and combine.
- Remove from heat. Stir in cilantro and mozzarella cheese.
- Spread chicken mixture evenly between 10 tortillas.
- Roll up and place seam side down on a greased cookie sheet. Spray the tops of taquitos with nonstick cooking spray.
- Cook for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Freezer Meal Modifications
This recipe works as a freezer meal. I will make these 1-2 weeks in advanced. Complete all the steps listed. Once they have cooled, wrapped them in foil and place in an airtight container or Ziploc bag. When you are ready to make them for dinner, place them in the oven at 350℉ for about 20 to 25 minutes.If you are in a hurry, you can microwave them, but we prefer to reheat in the oven. The oven gives them more crunch, and they will be less soggy from moisture in the microwave.

Found this on pinterest and I already had a bag of frozen BBQ shredded chicken int he freezer from a previous meal so they came together really fast. Thanks for saving dinner!
These turned out really good, thanks for posting! I am not a fan of cilantro, so added some green pepper with the onion. I used whole wheat tortillas and tried a few corn tortillas, but wheat were better.
I’m just making these now. The look delicious. I made them with leftover BBQ chicken. I have one question if we are freezing them do we bake them ahead?
You can do either way. If you don’t bake them, just take from the freezer and follow the directions in the recipe for freezer meal. Or you can bake them and freeze them. Then reheat in a microwave or thaw and reheat in the oven just until heated through.
