Cooking frozen french fries in the air fryer is going to be your favorite way to make them!
They are nice and crispy on the outside, but perfectly soft and warm on the inside. We’ll go over cooking time and the cooking process to give you a healthier way to eat air fryer french fries. Get a bowl of ketchup on the size and you’re on your way to eating the most delicious, easiest fries in no time.
They taste like they have been fried, but they are air fried!
The best thing about this is that you don’t need a deep fryer to make this easy side dish. You can make homemade fries without the hassle, and you can use your favorite seasonings to personalize it even more. Say goodbye to your favorite fast food fries, because you’re going to like these even more. You can even do different types of fries, from crispy french fries and thicker fries to crinkle fries or thinner fries.
We have been trying to find more ways to use our Air Fryers and making frozen fries is one of my favorite things to air fry.
If you love your air fryer, be sure to check out our most popular air fryer recipe: Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings (they are so good!). Once you make air fryer frozen fries, you’ll never go back. They can even be better than deep fried french fries!

Ingredients needed for Air Fryer Frozen French Fries:
- Frozen French Fries – I used a 16 ounce bag. Any brand will work, but Ore-Ida is one of my favorite frozen potato brands.
- Non-stick cooking spray – I used Pam spray (the canola oil time). You could also use a Misto with olive oil or vegetable oil or even avocado oil.
- Salt – I just used regular salt, but seasoned salt would work as well!
How to make Air Fryer Frozen French Fries:
Spray the bottom of the air fryer pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Dump frozen fries into the bottom of the air fryer basket. For the best results, spread them in a single layer.

If desired, lightly spray fries with non-stick cooking spray.
Sprinkle fries with salt and toss to coat all the fries.
Set air fryer to 400 degrees. Set timer for 16 minutes, stirring fries half way through.

If you want your fries even more crispy, cook for a few more minutes (I like my fries to be really crispy, so I usually cook them for 22-24 minutes).
Add more salt if desired.

How long to cook frozen fries in air fryer:
This recipe is written for just regular french fries.
If you have a different type of fry, the cook times will vary:
- Shoestring fries (thin cut fries): 8-10 minutes
- Crinkle Cut Fries: 10-11 minutes
- Sweet Potato Fries: 16-18 minutes
- Waffle Fries: 10 minutes (even though they are big, they have big holes, so they cook quickly)
- Curly Fries: 10-12 minutes
- Tater Tots: 10-12 minutes
If your french fries finish cooking and they are not crispy enough, you can always add them back in for a few more minutes.
You can also open your air fryer at any time to check on the doneness and then throw them back in if they are not done enough.
