75 Healthy Snacks 100 Calories or Less

Healthy snacks 4

It’s that time of year again when we can no longer hide under our long pants and hoodies  (dang it!) The warm weather is here and so are the short sleeves and swim suits! I love summer time, and I am determined to eat a healthier so I can show off a little more leg! Ha Ha! (Not a lot of leg…. just from the knee down) :)

Anyways… my husband and I have decided that we were going to try hard and eat healthy snacks this summer for me and my whole family. I put together a list so I could get some ideas! This isn’t a list of pre packaged snacks… these are tried and true healthy snacks! Here’s to Healthy Eating!

Ramen Noodle Oriental Chicken Salad Recipe

One of my favorite things about summer barbecues is the side dishes!  This recipe is a family favorite we have loved for years.  You could even serve this as a main dish if you were wanting a light, refreshing salad!

Ramen Noodle Oriental Chicken Salad Recipe:
(Makes 8-10 servings)

Dressing:

3/4 cup vegetable oil
4 1/2 Tablespoons seasoned rice vinegar
4 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper

Salad:
2 -3 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
1 head cabbage, chopped
1 bunch green onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 (2 1/2 ounce) package slivered almonds
2 packages Top Ramen noodles, crushed into small pieces

Directions:
In a small bowl, whisk together vegetable oil, rice vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper.  Cover and store in fridge until before serving.  In a large bowl, combine cooked chicken, cabbage and sunflower seeds; set aside.  In a pan over medium heat, warm up vegetable oil.  Add Top Ramen noodles (without flavor packets) and cook until slightly brown.  Add slivered almonds and continue stirring over heat until golden brown.  Once cool, add ramen mixture to the cabbage mixture and stir to combine.  Add dressing and toss to coat before serving to avoid  the noodles getting soggy.

Stitch Fix Review with Six Sisters’ Stuff

stitch-fix-title-image

Stitch Fix. Have you heard of it? It’s kind of a catchy name!
You’ve probably seen it in some of your friend’s Instagram feeds (that’s where I first saw it!) and I wondered what in the world #stitchfix was.

Finally, I clicked the hashtag, and saw all of these cute clothes! So, I thought Stitch Fix must be a brand. But, as I’ve come to find out, it’s a lot more than that.
stitch-fix-boxes

So what is Stitch Fix?
It’s a new way to shop online. It’s a clothing and accessory subscription box for women, BUT it’s personalized. After filling out a personal Style Profile, your 5 items are handpicked by one of the many talented stylists at Stitch Fix, and sent straight to your door. You keep what you love, and then you send back what you don’t love in a pre-paid envelope (dropped right into your mailbox). That way, you have the chance to try them on, see how they fit, and you don’t have to worry about crazy return policies or shipping fees.

How does Stitch Fix work?
Fill out your style profile. This gets pretty detailed – weight, dress size, height, proportions – just so that your clothes are fit for YOUR body type. (As much as I want to wear super skinnies and cropped shirts, my curvy body just doesn’t quite look good in them!). You then get to look at a series of clothes that you feel you would wear (my favorite series is below) – just so they can get a feel of what style you go for. You can also tell them what clothes you avoid (I avoid clothes that are short or revealing), so they know what you won’t feel comfortable in.
Stitch-fix-box

So what does Stitch Fix cost?
Each item is priced differently (and you can also set your price range in your style profile), but the average price is about $50. There is a $20 styling fee, but THAT GOES TOWARD ANYTHING YOU PURCHASE. You are only charged the $20 fee if you don’t buy anything in your box. Another bonus: if you buy all 5 items in your box, you get the $20 styling credit as well as 25% off your entire purchase. Plus, with free shipping, it’s really not too bad.

But, we have to be honest. There’s another way you can get MORE discounts. Their REFERRAL PROGRAM.

What is Stitch Fix‘s awesome referral program?
Some companies are a little stingy when it comes to referrals. Some will offer a small discount, others will give you a coupon for a free pair of earrings (…cool…). Stitch Fix, on the other hand offers you a $25 credit for each person you refer. $25 dollars. Per person. If you got your a sister and a friend to sign up, BOOM. $50 of free clothes! Our friend Ashton has been doing it for quite a few months, and has referred enough people that she hasn’t paid for another Stitch Fix since her very first box.

So here’s our honest opinion:
All six of us tried out Stitch Fix. Some of us had better experiences with our first box than others. Elyse absolutely LOVED hers (she is due any day with her first baby girl, and they sent her AWESOME stretchy dresses and flowy clothing that were really cute), and Camille kept all of her items (just don’t tell her hubby ;)). I loved the striped shirt I got (pictured below paired with a blazer), and a white, lightweight cardigan (I’d been searching for one I liked for months). Lauren and Kendra, and Kristen returned all but one of their items. But after filling out a detailed report of WHY they didn’t like their fix, they were satisfied with their second boxes. We were very impressed with their service all around, and we felt inspired enough to share it with you.

blazer-with-jeans

This post is NOT sponsored by Stitch Fix, but the links are affiliate links. We thought about doing the referral program, but there was no way we could split it evenly among the six of us, so we went the affiliate route. Although we do get some affiliate leads, we thought we’d share because we thought the possibility of our readers getting FREE clothes by referring others was too good of a reason not to.

Your Style. Delivered.

Eggplant Parmesan

Eggplant-parmesan

My husband and I went on a cruise in March with his family. The views were AMAZING. And the food?! Even better. One night, they brought us this delicious eggplant parmesan. I thought it would be a good appetizer (it seemed kind of small), but with the delicious cheeses and sauce, it filled me right up! Ever since then, I have been craving it. But I was a little bit wary of cooking eggplant. I mean – how can you make a delicious meal, where this:

eggplant

is the main ingredient?! I had never bought one before, and I didn’t even know where to find it! But, with the delicious eggplant parm I had on the cruise in mind, I was determined to make it happen. Honestly, I am so glad I did! It was really so easy, and tasted SO GOOD! So, if you’re afraid to try cooking eggplant, don’t worry. It’s a lot easier than it looks. :)

Serves: 4-6

The layers of eggplant, cheese, and sauce, in this dish make a delicious, filling meal!
Ingredients
  • 2 eggplants, peeled
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 3 cups spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • fresh basil leaves, chopped

Instructions
  1. Cut eggplant into ¼” thick slices. Salt the slices, and let them soak in water for 20 minutes.
  2. Drain the eggplant, and rinse with cold water to remove the salt. Pat dry.
  3. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  4. Dip each slice in egg, then dredge it in bread crumbs. Place each slice on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes on one side, flip them over, and bake for 5 minutes more.
  5. Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees.
  6. In a 9×13″ pan, spread 1 cup of spaghetti sauce. Layer with half of the eggplant slices. On top, add another cup of sauce, spreading it evenly over the eggplant. Top that with ½ cup of Parmesan cheese, and 1 cup of Mozzarella cheese. Repeat with a second layer of eggplant, sauce, and cheeses. Top with basil leaves.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until cheese starts to turn golden.
