My husband can be a little picky when it comes to chicken made in slow cooker.
I knew I had to change his mind, so I whipped up this Slow Cooker Sticky Garlic Chicken and it did the trick.
This recipe is so quick and easy and tastes amazing. It is one of our new family favorites.
It is so simple and requires only a few ingredients you probably already have at home.
I love how sweet and tangy the sauce is.
It goes perfectly over rice, or you could just eat it as is.
How to make Slow Cooker Sticky Garlic Chicken:
Step 1: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium high heat.
Step 2: Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper, and place in heated oil. Let cook on a few minutes on each side until just browned.
Step 3: Place seared chicken thighs in slow cooker.
Step 4: Whisk together soy sauce, ketchup, honey, minced garlic, ginger, sriracha and lime juice. Pour over chicken.
Step 5: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Step 6: Serve over cooked rice and garnish with chopped cilantro.
Could I use chicken breasts instead of chicken thighs?
You could use chicken breasts in this recipe, but I think the chicken thighs make all the difference.
They are much more tender and absorb the flavor a little better than a chicken breast.
They also don’t tend to dry out like chicken breasts do in the slow cooker.
Can you cook it on high for less time?
You most definitely could cook this on high for less time. If you do cook it on high in your slow cooker, cook it for 3-4 hours.
We recommend cooking it on low for a longer amount of time. Chicken is most tender when it is cooked low and slow.
What could I serve as a side dish?
Whenever we make this Slow Cooker Sticky Chicken, I like to make some type of vegetable. You are always safe with a salad, like our Seven Layered Green Salad.
We also love this dish with our Parmesan Peas, or our Oven Roasted Broccoli and Cauliflower. They both tastes delicious when you combine it with your rice and sticky chicken.
You could also add a more fruity side dish like our favorite Layered Strawberry Jell-O Salad.

Sounds yummy……Could you cook on high for 3-4 hours to save time?
This recipe cooks on low for 6-8 hours. Low and slow is always best with the slow cooker, but you could definitely turn it on high and it will get done sooner.
Could you instant pot it instead?
You could try and would have to make the necessary adjustments. We have not yet tried this recipe in our instant pot.
I cooked this last night in the IP. I browned the thighs in two batches in the IP and then used a bit of chicken broth to scrap off the chicken bits to avoid a “BURN” notification. I used the exact recipe for the sauce and poured it onto of the chicken thighs. High Pressure for 8 minutes. I always let mine NPR for about 10 minutes. Served over brown rice. Delicious recipe!
This receipe turned out great. Thank you for sharing
For us, making this in the slow cooker resulted in the chicken itself being quite bland, but the sauce was amazing. So the next time I made this, I did it in the Instant Pot, and it was perfect! A definite family favorite!
Hi! Making this tonight! I know that searing is a crucial step for flavor, but can I skip it and just throw the size in the crockpot or would you recommend searing?
You can skip it if you want but searing the chicken will enhance the chicken’s visual appeal with that golden color but also makes the meat more flavorful.
