During the holidays our family loves making treats to eat and give to other friends and families. These are some great Christmas foil tins to use if you plan to make up the Christmas Chex mix recipes with M&Mās.
This recipe is also a great snack to send along with your kids for their school parties. Our kids are always excited to bring this and share it with their friends. And of course, they ask for me to make it during our family nights.

Recipe Ingredient Notes
To make White Chocolate Chex Party Mix, you will need the following ingredients:
- Pretzels (one 10-ounce package)
- Cheerios (any flavor such as plain, multi-grain, or honey nut)
- Corn Chex
- Peanuts
- Plain M&M’s (two 12-ounce packages)
- White Chocolate Chips (two 12-ounce packages)
- Vegetable Oil

Equipment Needed
For this recipe, you only need a few simple kitchen tools. We recommend using the following equipment:

How to Make White Chocolate Chex Party Mix
- In a VERY large bowl (or two medium bowls), combine the first 5 ingredients. Set aside.
- In a microwave safe bowl, heat white chips and oil on high for 60 seconds (you could also melt chocolate and oil in a double boiler pan). Stir and microwave for another 30 seconds and stir until completely melted and smooth (you may need to microwave for a couple more seconds).
- Pour melted chocolate over cereal mix. Stir until all the cereal is evenly covered with white chocolate.
- Spread cereal mix on 2 large baking sheets lined with wax paper. Let cool and then break apart into chunks.
- Store in an airtight container.
Make Ahead
You can make this White Chocolate Chex Party Mix ahead of time. Ideally, I would make it 1-2 days ahead of time. Any more, and the cereal might start to go stale.
Edible Gifts
Consider packing this delicious treat into cellophane bags for homemade gifts that are sure to bring smiles to faces. It’s a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer, especially since the snack mix can stay fresh for 2-3 days, making it a delightful gift option that can be enjoyed over time.

Recipe Modifications
If you want to add more textures and tastes to this Chex Mix, consider the following mix-ins: Snicker’s candy bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, almonds, cashews, peanut or peanut butter M&M’s, shredded coconut, Butterfingers, Nutter Butters, Kit Kats, or any of your favorite holiday toppings or candy.

I love any type of chex mix this time of year. So far I have done the ones from the box, but homemade is best.
I’m making this right now! I used pb capt. crunch instead of cheerios because that’s all we had in the house… I can’t wait to try it!!
Thanks for idea of Cap’n Crunch Alyssa. I need to omit the pretzels for a family member who can’t have wheat and that sounds perfect.
Would this work just as well with milk chocolate instead of white? My kids totally turn their nose up at white chocolate.
Milk chocolate works great too! YUM!
I used 1/4 C. peanut butter instead of the vegetable oil and it was delicious!!!
Thid is what I have been looking for I think I might add marshmellows too but chocolate flavored
I’m excited to make this for my 2nd graders for our winter party! I have one kiddo who is diabetic. Do you have a carbohydrate count for one serving? I am doing exactly as the recipe states! Thanks.
Yay! Thank you! I am so very excited š
How far in advance can this be made and still taste fresh/crispy?
I need to make this two days ahead of when I need to serve it. Is this something I can freeze or what do you suggest? Should I just keep it in airtight containers until I need them? I just want to know how fresh it will be into days.
Store it in an airtight container and it will be fine for about 5 days! (store away from heat)
Hi Sharon, You can make this ahead of time and store in an airtight container. We have stored it up to 5 days, and you could possible go a little longer. Just store it away from heat, preferably in a cooler place.
How long does it take to harden? I followed the recipe to the T and it’s been sitting out an hour and it’s still pretty gooey.
Stick it in the fridge for 15 minutes and you’ll be great!
I am about to start this and instead of using 5 cups of each cereal I am using 5 cups of one and 2 1/2 cups of 2 other kinds I used fruit loops, rice chex and honey nut chireos
For a nut allergy, I would skip the nuts(obviously…. ha ha!!!), add corn chips, maybe sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds, and use Smarties nut free line. Looks amazing!
Make sure that your microwave is high enough wattage to melt the chocolate chips. I ended up having to melt the chocolate on the stove in a double boiler which made it MUCH longer to prepare and much more labor intensive. Tastes great after all the work!
I use half peanut butter chips/ half white chocolate and it is a big hit!
Did your m &m melt when you added the white chocolate? This seemed to happen when I did
Hi Gina, we have not had a problem with our M & M’s melting. You could wait a few minutes before adding the white chocolate, or add your M & M’s at the very end.
Do you think this would be ok as a take home snack in a cellophane goody bag for a kids school party? I’m worried it might melt and stick to the inside of the bag.
We give this away to neighbors all the time at Christmas. It’s works great in a goody bag. It won’t melt unless you live somewhere that is hot. This chex mix sets up really well.
I need to omit peanuts all together. What other nut do you recommend?
You could easily use pecans or almonds in this White Chocolate Chex Party Mix.
I watched the video recently so ran out to get the ingredients. I used peanut butter/chocolate cheerios, peanut butter Chex (new and fabulous!), Reeceās mini pieces, mini pb cups, broken in half pretzel sticks and almond bark. Sooo yummy!!
Has anyone made this with Chocolate Chex cereal. I always made this with the standard corn or rice but wondered if this would be a yummy option as I bought a box on sale.
That sounds like it would be delicious! Let us know if you make it and what you think
Hi, just made this recipes “as is” and it’s wonderful! Do you know how it freezes? I realized that I don’t need it for a few days
This freezes great! I’ve frozen it many time with great results
We’ve been making variations of this for years, and it’s always a favorite with the fam and friends. We bag it up in fancy xmas themed bags to hand out for the holidays.
I’ve found that I can increase the cereals to 6 cups each, and there is still enough coating to cover everything nicely. Also, the white chocolate chips that have cocoa butter as one of the first ingredients seem to melt up nicer in my experience. Others made with palm kernal oil have ended up being too dry and harder to melt without adding a bunch of extra oil.
Love the recipe, thanks for sharing!
