Slow Cooker Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, (frozen works fine)
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- 14 ounces chicken broth
- 2 green peppers, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 ounce Italian dressing mix, 1 packet
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 buns or hoagies
- 8 Provolone cheese slices
Instructions
- Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Place chicken inside slow cooker, place butter on top of chicken and pour chicken broth on top. Layer sliced green peppers, sliced onion, garlic, Italian dressing mix, paprika, salt and pepper on top of chicken.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours (or high for 3-4 hours).
- When chicken is done cooking, remove from slow cooker and shred (it should fall apart pretty easily). Return shredded chicken into liquid in the slow cooker.
- Spoon shredded chicken onto buns and top with pieces of cheese. Another yummy option is to toast your bread in a 375℉ oven for 4-5 minutes, then top with meat and cheese and stick back in the oven for 5 minutes to melt the cheese and make it nice and gooey.
Notes
When ready to eat, remove from freezer and thaw in fridge for 24 hours. Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Pour contents of bag inside the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours (or high for 3-4 hours). Spoon meat mixture onto hoagie buns and top with pieces of cheese. If you wanted to, you could also throw some fresh sliced mushrooms into the slow cooker with the chicken. My sister and I discovered that we loved Dijon mustard on the bread for an additional kick.

For your tooth fairy fail, what I always did was put the money under my pillow or something else (like the phone) on top of my pillow so that when I was going to bed, something was out of the ordinary and it would remind me. Good luck and thanks for the recipe! 🙂

We have definitely forgotten the tooth fairy! Once my son lost his tooth in bed so we told him that the tooth fairy had already left for her rounds so she wasn’t prepared for him. I’ve heard of other parents saying that maybe it “dropped” behind the bed. As for the going rate – no clue – the tooth fairy never visited my house. We give my son between 25 cents to a dollar depending on what change, etc we have on hand.

making these right now…..but, I’m guessing you forgot to add something about cutting up the chicken breasts PRIOR to placing them in the slow cooker? Maybe?? (I assumed they would fall apart after cooking for 4 hours). All I know is I am SO ready to eat these sandwiches…………..my house smells AMAZING!

We were once told, “the tooth fairy is a cheapskate!”, we stepped it up after that.
I had a nephew sleep over recently and found out that the tooth fairy leaves him $3. Not sure she will be doing that at our house when we get there. I like the idea of something special though like maybe a susan b. anthony dollar or a $2 bill, though that will require a trip to the bank and a bit of forethought 🙂
By the time my third son starting losing teeth, the tooth fairy had apparently gotten very busy. Sometimes there were so many children losing teeth the same day he did, she didn’t make it to his tooth for 2 or 3 days! And she leaves what we call at our house “golden dollars”. Those are the $1 coins that are gold. So much more fun than an ordinary paper dollar bill and still worth a dollar to spend. (I don’t know where the tooth fairy that visits some kids gets the $20 I hear my son talking about! Way too much, in my opinion.)
I forgot tooth fairy business several nights in a row around Easter time…. I dribbled food coloring on note and printed how I (the tooth fairy) had been so busy helping the Easter bunny dye eggs that I had not had time…My Cara carried that little note in her pocket for weeks!

We had some tooth fairy goofs when our children were growing up. I started putting the money in my bra when the tooth came out. When getting ready for bed I was reminded to take care of that little rascal. She never forgot again.
I love all the recipes here and will definitely be trying this one very soon! Regarding the tooth fairy: I worked at a bank and it was always fairly easy to have a stash on hand at home of $2 bills or gold $1 coins – either one or the other, so my kids never got more than $2 per tooth! The gold dollars were actually more popular, they’re a little more out of the mainstream.

this was very good. A lot of liquid so you need to use a slotted spoon. I thought I’d try something interesting and use the chicken in a stuffed pepper to cut out 500 calories. Still topped it with the cheese and it was very good. Probably better on bread. We are reserving the leftovers for tomorrows dinner.

Hmmmm although there is some serious false advertisement happening with the name of.this… It still looks amazing. Being born and raised and still residing in Philly i can assure you this isn’t anything like a Philly chicken cheese steak beside the fact that it is chicken.lol
When u say slice the green pepper & onion can u just slice lg for flavor&remove before serving? What kind of onion?
Also in the pic it looks like peppercins like u use with bee,not green peppers…?
You could easily pull out the green pepper and onion before serving. It will add some yummy flavor during cooking.
I forgot one time and she was so upset, so I had her eat her breakfast and went and put the money in the pillow case and told her after breakfast lets go look again maybe you missed it or it was placed in a new spot. I told her sometimes their are new tooth fairies and they all put them in different spots. She
Often the pillow me still didn’t see it, so I told her to look inside the pillow case just in case they moved the spot. There it was, like it was there all along, lol. That never happened again. Now that they are old enough, 9 and 12 they know there’s not a tooth fairy, so they get the money right away. We gave $10 for their very first tooth and for every other tooth it was $5.00. The tooth fairy has fallen behind the 8-ball around here more than once, too… we have 2 girls losing teeth like crazy. Who knew there was a second round around 9??? One of us runs distraction, while the other plants the cash. Then we suggest that we help look, because perhaps they have missed what was left. Surprise! It must of simply been overlooked somehow! We leave $5 since that is what their cousins were getting. We let them spend some and they have to save some in their bank accounts.

When the tooth fairy forgot at our house, she would leave a note the next day saying that there was a lot of children in the world that day that had lost a tooth and that she was behind schedule, and was really really sorry. There was always “fairy dust” on the letters and pillow and around the gold coin that was left. Our tooth fairy always left a shiny gold dollar coin. One time my son put a dogs tooth in the tooth fairy pillow and he got a piece of coal and a note that said, “Good try”! “Santa isn’t the only one who leaves coal.” As they got older and no longer believed in the tooth fairy, they still got their gold coin.
the tooth fairy left a note saying our cat tried to catch her so she had to wait till the next day and if we would kindly lock the cat up that night 😉 and $1 is enough!

It should work fine if you prepare it and then freeze it in an airtight container or freezer bag. Then thaw and heat when ready!

My daughter tried to convince me that her friends were getting $5, $10 and upwards of $20 per tooth in her class! She was in 2nd or 3rd grade! Smh! I just told her or Youth Fairy must’ve ran outta money by the time she got to our house then, because she was only getting 25 cents to $1, at the most! LOL!
As written, it appears to get exactly 6 sandwiches. I made it with 2lbs. of chicken, and I had enough for 8 or 9.

So disappointed in this sandwich. I thought it was flavorless- and waited for my husband to try it, without saying anything. Well he said there is no flavor at all. I followed it exactly, using packet of good season Italian. The flavor of the green peeper seemed to cook out of it as it cooked in crock pot. I think I would put onions and green pepper in half way through. But I won’t make it again. I see someone mentioned steak seasoning- that might help

I have made this recipe many times. It is always terrific! I add extra onions and peppers because we like them. My family enjoys so much! I use leftovers for lunches the next day. I love the easy prep for this recipe. It is always delicious!

This recipe was bland. If I were doing it over I’d maybe double the Italian seasoning. It definitely needs something more.
