- 4-6 boneless skinless chicken breasts (frozen)
- 1 (12 ounce) bottle Frank’s Wings Buffalo Sauce
- 1 packet dry ranch dressing mix
- 2 Tablespoons butter
How to make Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches:
- Put frozen chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Pour the whole bottle of buffalo sauce over chicken breasts and sprinkle ranch seasoning mix on top. Cook on low 6-7 hours. Using two forks, shred chicken and return it to the crock pot.
- Add butter, stir and cook on low for an additional hour.
- Serve cooked chicken on buns and serve with a side of ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing.
Can you freeze this crock pot recipe?
For best results, store leftover crockpot buffalo chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 day or freeze this buffalo chicken sandwich recipe in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating..
Hamburger buns, slider buns and brioche buns work great for this easy recipe.
Not a fan of spicy food? If you want low heat find a mild buffalo wing sauce to tone down the spice. You can add cream cheese or sour cream to the chicken mixture or even swap out the Frank’s red hot sauce for BBQ sauce. We also like to top it with blue cheese crumbles.

Love the sound of this! And the fact that it is made in a slowcooker!
I will be doing this for dinner tonight! Sounds really good!
My husband is going to love this!
How big a bottle of sauce, there are different sizes???
I have 2 sizes of franks… Which one? Thanks!
my kitchen smells amazing!!
So tasty!! I love your recipes 🙂
I was on Pinterest and this happened to show up under Food & Drink and my boyfriend jumped out of his chair, pointed at it on the screen and nearly demanded I make it soon. It looks SO good. We’re buffalo chicken freaks around here. Love that it goes in the slow cooker! And I’m excited about that nacho idea for this… yum!
Is it very spicy? sounds great. I just want to make sure it’s something my 2 year old can handle.
Going to try this today. 🙂 Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks for sharing,
Susie
It was a TAD HOT but tasty. What kind do you buy that isn’t so hot???????
Susie
I echo the “what size of Frank’s” question. Can’t wait to make this!
I guess they don’t read their comments. LOVE the recipe but would like to know the answers to the questions. 🙂
Susie
I made it tonight and used the small bottle and it was good. Not too hot. My 8 year old loved it the 5 year olds not so much – too spicy.
Hi!
Sorry about that. It is a 12 ounce bottle. Thanks!
Hi!
Sorry about that, just had a baby so I am a little behind on answering questions! It is a 12 ounce bottle. Thanks!
Hi Susie,
I usually just get the buffalo wing flavor. It is a little hot! I know they have a flavor that is called “Sweet Chile” that might be really good!

Hi Drae,
I have a two year old as well and it was too spicy for him. I know they have different flavors so they might have something a little more mild. Sorry about that!
Congrats on the new baby.
Yes it was a tad hot.

Making this right now! Very excited! Kinda modified the recipe for my little ones, used about 5 frozen breasts, 2/3rds of the bottle of buffalo sauce 1/3rd cup of water and the ranch packet, cant wait to try it!! 🙂
Just started a batch of this and modified because I accidentally bought regular hot sauce. Original flavor says it’s on the average heat level, but I still wasn’t going to use the while thing. I used half and a can of mild enchilada sauce because that’s what I had on hand….I’ll let you know in 6-8 hours. 🙂
hello, i am super excited to try this, my question is about the ranch packet? i assume that it is powder and you add stuff to make dressing, but for this recipe you just want the powder… how many tbsp or ounces is the packet?

Does the chicken have to be frozen?
Hi Daniel!
Your chicken breasts don’t have to be frozen. Thanks!
We’ve made this recipe many times now with some changes. The first time we used the Frank’s Wing Sauce and it was way too salty. Next time we used Frank’s original. When we looked at the label we noticed Frank’s Wing Sauce had 400+mg of sodium compared to Original that was 190mg. That’s a big difference. Also deleted the ranch packet. Way too salty. We added in a dash of vinegar, a can of beer, and some red pepper flakes. We cook on low for 6-7 hours, shred it, add some butter and a little bit more hot sauce and cook on low for another hour. Cibata rolls toasted with some melted mozzarella with some ranch dressing. Amazing sandwich!
Can you use bbq sauce instead of the buffalo sauce?
Sure that would work just fine. It will be more of a BBQ chicken which would be delicious! -The Six Sisters
Is this something I can cook on high for 2-3 hours instead of low for 6-7? I want to make it for a family lunch.
Sure, it might be closer to 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Just watch closely so it doesn’t burn. If you can do it longer on a lower temp it’s ususally moister.
I’m thinking this for tomorrow night since we’ll be out all day. But making it into a wrap with thin sliced celery seems a very good idea! Come on tomorrow night!
Where do you get the Frank’s Sauces? I looked at Walmart and Target and couldn’t find it.
We found it at Wal Mart on the Ketchup aisle.
I was scrolling through your recipes and telling my husband what slow cooker ones we could try. He really liked this one and we were excited to try it. We followed the recipe exactly. Well, it was hot, VERY HOT. Too hot. So we had to add sugar and sour cream (I won’t say how much of both because it’s a lot) and it finally made the buffalo chicken eatable. My hubby and I love hot, spicy food, but I’d say don’t add the whole bottle of Frank’s if you want your kiddos to eat this. Good recipe, easy, but make your own modifications!
Hello all, does anyone know if this recipe can be frozen? We are having a large party and i wanted to make a 1/2 tray of it but only have 1 slow cooker so i’d have to make several batches of it.
thanks!
The buffalo chicken should freeze just fine in an airtight container or freezer bag. Let thaw and then reheat.
Sounds delish! I would only be able to make this on the weekend since I work during the week. It would be left on too long if I started in the morning, and wouldn’t want to put on at 6:30pm.
Where did you get this Idea from?
This tasted great, just the right amount of spice, a great crowd pleaser!
This is my boyfriends absolute favorite meal that I make! I make it every Sunday during football season. I’m not a big fan of buffalo flavor but I eat this every time. It’s a keeper!
Made it in the Instant Pot instead. 35 Min with frozen chicken breasts. I wasn’t sure of the time but went by other recipies. Didn’t have Franks but used Sweet Baby Rays Buffalo Sauce. It’s spicy but so easy. May adjust amount of sauce slightly.
Hello!
I plan to make this tonight for dinner. If my chicken breasts are not frozen, what temp and how long do you recommend me cooking this recipe in the slow cooker? Thanks so much in advance!
Maybe around 4-5 hours on low. Check them to be sure they are cooked through.
Can you modify this to an instant pot recipe?
We did a post on converting recipes to the Instant Pot. It should help. https://www.sixsistersstuff.com/how-to-convert-recipes-into-instant-pot-recipes/
Can this be made into an Instant Pot Recipe?
You could cook your chicken in the instant pot, then after it is cooked shred the chicken and add the other ingredients to the warm chicken.
If it’s too hot for your kids go to Costco and but “Primal kitchen Buffalo sauce made with avocado oil ” it says its medium heat but my little ones think it’s perfect!!
