They really only take 30 minutes from start to finish.

Recipe Ingredient Notes
To make Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls, you will need the following ingredients:
- Warm water (see notes below)
- Vegetable oil
- Active dry yeast (yes, it really is 2 Tbls)
- Sugar
- Salt
- Egg
- White whole wheat flour (more or less; see instructions below)

How to make Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls
- Preheat oven to 400℉.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm water, oil, yeast, and sugar; let rest for 5-10 minutes or until frothy and bubbly (you can also make this recipe without a stand mixer – just use a big bowl, a large wooden spoon, and all your arm strength).
- With a dough hook, mix in salt, egg and 2 cups of wheat flour until combined. Then add remaining flour – ½ cup at a time (dough will be sticky). Sometimes I need the full 3 ½ cups, sometimes I need less, and sometimes I need even more.
- Spray your hands with cooking spray and shape the dough into 12 balls.
- After shaped, place on lightly greased cookie sheet and let rest and rise for at least 10 minutes.
- Bake for about 10 minutes or until tops are lightly golden.
Storage Suggestions
- Counter & Refrigerator: Place rolls in an airtight container or ziplock bag. Store in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. Store on the counter for 1-2 days.
- Freezer: Wrap each rolls individually in foils and place in an airtight freezer bag. Store in the freezer for 1 to 2 months.
- Reheating: Preheat oven to 300°F. Reheat until warm for best results. Or microwave in 30 second increments for 1 to 2 minutes.

For the water temperature: When it comes to how hot the water needs to be for this recipe (and most homemade breads), you want to use the hottest water that you would use to wash your face. If it’s too hot for you to wash your face in, it’s too hot to use for homemade bread. You want it to be warm, but not too hot so that your yeast activates perfectly.

I have not made this recipe using any other kind of whole wheat flour, but I feel like it would work. Just add the flour in a little bit at a time until the dough is no longer sticky.

I love these rolls. I’ve also made bigger ones to be hamburger buns. If I double the recipe to make 24 rolls, can I bake them in a 9×13 and have them turn out like your picture? To where I can cut them in half (top to bottom) to make slider buns?
