Some weeks we have so many bananas left over and I never know what to do with them. I usually end up throwing them out.
But this week I was craving banana bread and I saw these brownies and was so excited to try them. If you love banana bread, you are going to LOVE these.
They are so easy to make and full of rich banana and chocolate flavor. They came together quickly and had the most amazing reviews from friends and family.
To all banana bread lovers out there, I think I just found your new favorite recipe. You will love this one.
What bananas work best for this recipe?
For this recipe, you will want to be selective with your bananas. For these brownies, you want your bananas to be extremely ripe. If they are still yellow, or have green on them, this recipe won’t work.
Your brownies will be rubbery, and not soft. For the best results, use brown bananas that are extremely soft and ripe.
I usually make these brownies when my bananas are completely brown, with just a little bit of yellow on them.
They will also be sweeter brownies, the more ripe your bananas get.
what is the best way to store these?
I love this recipe, and my family does as well, that we usually don’t have many leftover. However, if you do have some leftover, the best way to store them is putting them in the fridge.
We recommend placing them in an air tight storage container, and putting them in the fridge.
If you aren’t going to eat them for more than a week, we recommend freezing them. Again the best way to freeze them is placing them in an airtight storage container and putting them in the freezer.
They will last nicely in the freezer for about 2 weeks, and in the fridge, about 3-5 days.
To thaw them, we recommend placing them in the fridge overnight and serving them the next day. You could also give them a little heat in the microwave, to make them taste like they just came out of the oven.

LOVE these!! Pinned, because I always have tired bananas on my counter AND in my freezer.
You can freeze your bananas!!! I just throw them peeled in a freezer ziploc and they are ready for smoothies, bread, muffins, etc. they work great, and you don’t have to rush to make something out of your brown bananas!

I love the idea of making brownies out of my brown bananas!
I recently made this recipe (from another site) and found the texture quite odd, almost rubbery, and nothing like a brownie. Not something I would make again.
I got the same issue as Rhonda, a rubbery texture. But we eated this as a “flan” with some “crème anglaise”. Nice way for extra ripe bananas (no sugar added) !
I made this last night and it was just awful..Followed the recipe to the tee and I also have to agree with Rhonda, It was very rubbery not even close to a brownie, cake or even a banana bread. And the taste was very bland. Hate wasting good food but this one went into the garbage, But if ya don’t try something new you would be stuck making the same old stuff. Love the picture though!
I made these and I LOVE THEM! And my kids love them, too! Thank you for the recipe! I was wondering, what is the best way to store them?
Goodness…hate to say this but – didn’t like these, very much, at all. Wasn’t you guys – but me – just my taste for things. Keep rocking – love your site and will be making your 7-up marinade this week. Hope it goes better ! Hugs and Blessings
I had planned on making these, then got worried after reading some bad reviews. But, I’ve yet to meet a Six Sister recipe I didn’t like, so onward I went with my baking. I am glad I did; they were delish. They were definitely dense, as warned. I wouldn’t call them “rubbery”, however. 1-1/2 c. banana was four bananas for me, not three. If someone were to just use three without measuring, (all depends on the size of the banana too) that could change the amount of banana flavor that is present. Now here is where I changed it up a bit: I used, instead of milk chocolate chips, some semi-sweet (it was what I had) and some…wait for it…peanut butter chips!! Who doesn’t love peanut butter and bananas?! I definitely recommend trying that! I will make again sometime. Now, off to make the chocolate mint brownies! 🙂
love love love this~ pin it. its a good idea~ not to waste too ripe bananas :p
Delicious! The aroma permeating from my kitchen yesterday morning drew everyone into the kitchen for a family breakfast. It is the perfect amount of sweetness, chocolate, and bananas. Love your site! I posted a link to the recipe on my blog: http://pintheredidthat.blogspot.com/2012/09/chocolate-banana-bread-brownies.html
My friend gave me these to taste and I loved them. True, the texture is far from being brownie-like, but I loved it. The taste was also great! But I can imagine it can be frustrating if you bite into it, expecting a brownie texture!
just made these today and they do have a weird texture. Little rubbery and plain. Oh well.
