Our pineapple grilled chicken is some of the most juicy and flavorful chicken you will make on your grill this summer. It is also so good that it is a picky eater-approved and a super simple kid-friendly dinner.

You can make this easy dinner up ahead of time and let the chicken marinate overnight if you want, just a few hours ahead to get the flavors to infuse into the chicken. But beyond that, this recipe is extremely simple.
That is what I love about grilled chicken recipes. There is not much prep ahead of time, less clean up, and the chicken is filled with amazing flavor.

Ingredient Notes
- Lemon lime soda
- Crushed pineapple (not drained)
- Soy sauce
- Brown sugar
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts
How To Make Our Pineapple Grilled Chicken:
- Begin making this grilled chicken recipe by getting out a large bowl and mixing together the lemon lime soda, crushed pineapple can (the whole thing, do NOT drain it), soy sauce, and the brown sugar.

- Mix everything together until all of the brown sugar dissolves and all the ingredients are well combined.

- Add the chicken to the lime and pineapple marinade, making sure that all of the chicken is covered in the sauce.
- Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge to let it chill and marinate for at least 4 hours or even overnight to let the flavors really develop.
- Once the chicken has time to marinate, remove the chicken from the fridge and grill the chicken on a preheated grill on medium high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- To make sure the chicken is done, make sure it is no longer pink, and has at least reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees fahrenheit.
- Serve it hot when it is done cooking!

Storing and Other Tips
Store leftover chicken breasts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet set over medium-low heat or an air fryer. It can also be served cold (straight from the fridge) sliced up on salads.
This recipe works great with chicken breast or chicken thighs depending on what you prefer. It also can easily be changed int a kabob recipe. Just chop up the marinated chicken and thread it into skewers with some fresh pineapple and some fresh peppers and onions.
We like to serve this recipe with grilled pineapple.

can you make this in the crockpot?
ahhh this looks so good!
It should work in the crockpot. It wouldn’t have the grilled flavor to it.
This looks like something I need to cook… except I have to admit that we have had four cans of lemon-lime soda in the fridge for ages because the first two of the six-pack were vile tasting to both of us. So my question is how much of the flavor of the soda brand is prominent in the overall flavor of the chicken? Is it like root beer in a pot roast, which you can’t really tell is there? Or would this seem as vile as the soda was?
You won’t be able to taste the lemon lime soda. It helps tenderize the chicken so that it’s so moist and tender.
Was wondering if you could do this in the oven? Sounds yummy. I live in Australia what can be subsituted if the soda is not available here?
Trying this tonight .. so excited!! 🙂 Also marinading asparagus in another batch of the marinade!
That looks great! My husband does grilled teriyaki chicken, but I can’t wait to try this next.
Why use crushed pineapple, since you can’t do anything with the pineapple after using it in the marinade? Would pineapple juice not suffice?
This is the perfect summer grilling recipe. We grilled some pineapple alongside the chicken like the photo and it was amazing!
