All the sisters have been on a “healthier” kick lately – because battling weight gain during the holidays is always so hard! I’ve been trying to snack on healthier options, and hummus is my absolute go-to! I tried some roasted red pepper hummus at Kristen’s house the other day, and I knew I could make some for a fraction of the price! It was delicious – I used it as a sandwich spread and as a delicious dip! 🙂

Instructions

Pour all ingredients into a blender or food processor.
Blend until it reaches your desired consistency. If you want it thinner, you can reserve the juice from your garbanzo beans and add it to the mixture.
I topped it with freshly chopped red peppers and served it with pita chips.

can this be frozen? I made too much and dont want it to go to waste lol

Celeste says:

I have found tahini near the peanut butter before. So you kinda have to look lots of places if you can’t find it.

@Jane—I’ve had pretty good luck with freezing homemade hummus

I love the store bought red pepper hummus. Homemade has to be even better! Thanks for sharing!

Megan says:

I want to try this but I have two problems,
One I can’t find Tahini, looked everywhere, couldn’t find it.
Two I can’t find red peppers, I would like fresh not canned.
So can I still do this recipe with Yellow or Orange Bell Peppers Instead of Red? And can I leave out the Tahini? It may taste different but I wonder if I have to change everything entirely?

Please let me know.

Here is some info on Tahini that I found on Google…..Tahini, a thin paste or spread made from ground sesame seeds, is very tasty and lends an extra nutty quality that transforms chickpeas into hummus. But what if you don’t have tahini on hand? Try some peanut butter instead! Tahini is sesame seed butter, so you could reasonably substitute any nut butter. It won’t taste the same, but it’ll be edible! Some people don’t like tahini in their hummus and use olive oil and ground cumin in its place. I mix one part flax seeds and one part Olive Oil.
As far as red peppers go, we used the little jar of roasted red peppers. You can also roast your own. You could use another color of pepper since your store does not have red ones.

Thanks, I’ll try the cumin since I have some!
