Ingredients used to make Lemon Brownies with Lemon Frosting:
For the lemon brownies
- Salted butter; room temperature
- Sugar
- Eggs; room temperature
- Real lemon juice (not lemon extract)
- Fresh lemon zest
For the frosting
- Butter
- Cream cheese
- Fresh lemon juice
- Powdered sugar
- Fresh lemon zest (to garnish)
How to make Lemon Brownies with Lemon Frosting:
For the lemon brownies
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9 X 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or line the pan with parchment paper.
- In the bowl of a stand-up mixer with a paddle attachment or an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugar on high speed.
- Add the eggs one at a time mixing between each addition.
- Add the lemon juice and vanilla extract and mix to combine
- Right on top of the wet ingredients, add the dry ingredients, all-purpose flour, double-acting baking powder, salt, and fresh lemon zest. Mix the flour mixture into the wet ingredients on low speed until combined. Do not over-mix.
- Pour batter into the prepared baking dish, smooth with a rubber spatula, and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- After the baking time allow to the lemony lemon brownies to cool for 5-10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack and let them cooling completely.
Frosting and assembly
- In a separate bowl or the small bowl of a stand-up mixer, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and lemon juice on medium-high speed until smooth.
- Add the powdered sugar and mix on low speed until incorporated.
- Increase the speed of the mixer to high and whip until fluffy.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled lemon brownies and sprinkle with lemon zest.

- 16 Tablespoons salted butter, 2 sticks, room temperature
- 1½ cups sugar
- 4 eggs, room temperature
- ½ cup lemon juice
- dash vanilla extract
- 2 cups all purpose flour

- 2 Tablespoons lemon zest
Lemon Frosting
- ¼ cup butter
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 3 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- ⅔ cup powdered sugar
- 1 Tablespoons fresh lemon zest, to garnish
Instructions
