I live in Texas and it is HOT in the summer. I love making these Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes because it is much easier to clean then melted ice cream all over my floors.
You can have them made and the kids can just grab them when it is time for a treat.
- Place your cones in an aluminum pan. We usually turn one upside down and cut holes in it, so they can stand up a little better.
- Make your batter, and put it in a plastic bag. Cut a corner the the plastic bag, and gently squeeze it into the standing cones.
- You do not want to fill it up to the top, but just under the rim. The cupcakes will grow, and you still have frosting to put on, so you don’t want to fill it up all the way, or it will cook and over flow.
- Top your cupcakes with frosting. We used vanilla, but any favorite frosting would be absolutely delicious with these.
what other cake mixes would be delicious with these?
I love cake. Really any cake flavor is my best friend. It is just so soft and moist.
If you don’t like vanilla or yellow, here are a few other cake mix options:
- Devils Food Cake (or really any chocolate cake mix)
- Lemon Cake Mix
- Strawberry Cake Mix
- Cherry Chip Cake Mix
- Funfetti Cake Mix (with funfetti frosting)
- Key Lime Cake Mix

Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes Tutorial Recipe
Ingredients
- 12 Kroger Ice Cream Cones, 1 box
- 1 box Kroger Butter Cake Mix
- Kroger white frosting and sprinkles, (I did mine red white and blue)
Instructions
- Take a cone out of your package, and trace the bottom of it 12 times onto your aluminum pan. Make sure they are evenly spaced.
- Cut out each circle using a razor blade. Place an ice cream cone in each hole. Place the aluminum pan on top of a baking sheet.
- Prepare cake mix as directed on box. Fill a plastic bag with prepared cake batter and cut a hole in one of the bottom corners. Squeeze cake batter into cones, filling it 3/4 of the way full. Be sure not to fill your cone over the edge of the cone or it will overflow when baking.
- Place baking sheet with cones in the oven and bake as directed on box. Most cupcakes using cake mixes are baked at 350 degrees F for 18-20 minutes. When they start getting golden brown on top, they are done!
- Pull baking sheet out of the oven and let cool completely.
- Put frosting into a plastic bag, cut off the corner and squeeze on top of cooled cupcake cones. Top with fun sprinkles.
Notes
- If you don't have an aluminum pan you can also use a metal muffin tin. Just place a cone in each tin, be careful not to tip them!

These were the favorites of my kids and their classmates all through grade school. Still sent them with one daughter to high school! The cones stand up just great in mini muffin pans. No cutting aluminum pans.
How do you make the cones stay crispy? I made these but the cones ended up being soggy by the time we ate them 🙁
