Yup, definitely a favorite in our house too! And also coming from “home at my mom’s”. I’m so glad you posted this favorite! I often substitute cauliflower if I have no broccoli. Thanks for sharing.
It was very good. Next time I won’t put salt when I boil the water for the broccoli. The other stuff have enough salt.
Can frozen broccoli be used?
Frozen broccoli should be fine in this recipe. Cook it and drain well.
can you use rotisserie chicken
We love rotisserie chickens. You can add it to any recipes that call for cooked chicken.
Hmm… I wonder how this would work in an instapot…? I will let you know how it goes…
In the “Easy Steps” section you mentioned cooking the broccoli and spinach ahead of time. I don’t see spinach in the actual recipe. Do you ever use spinach or was that just an error…I’ll try spinach too if you’ve used it successfully!
I am wondering the same thing! It might be really good with spinach.
Thanks for catching that typo Nan. It should be broccoli and chicken. I went in and corrected the error.
What is soft bread crumbs? Like panko?
Soft bread crumbs are just regular bread broken into small pieces. When you add the soft breadcrumbs to the butter and add to the top, they get golden and buttery crunchy on top of the casserole.
I don’t like to use cream of chicken because of the msg. I’m allergic. Do you have an alternative for that?
Here is a link to make your own Cream of Chicken soup. https://www.apinchofhealthy.com/homemade-condensed-cream-of-chicken-soup/
Buy organic. Theres no msg. There’s also no MSG in regular cream of chicken.
Could the casserole be prepared a head of time? maybe jut the bread crumbs added before cooking?
This sounds wonderful! I was hoping to make tonight but just realized I have no sour cream. Is there anything I can use as a substitute?
I don’t buy processed foods like canned soups. Also, sour cream is a big no-no in our house b/c of high cholesterol. Another of your recipes (a kind of marzetti) also called for an 8-ounce block of cream cheese to feed 4! Yikes! Let me check some other plans for lower fat content…or do you have some?
Plain Greek Yogurt can be subbed in for sour cream.
This can easily be prepared the day before. Just cover well and keep in the fridge until ready to bake.
I love to use rotisserie too, but only have canned organic chicken currently. Would that work?? Thanks!!
Could this be frozen?
This would definitely be great as a freezer meal.
Canned chicken will work too!
I am making this recipe for the second time so I can honestly say we love it
Freeze before you bake or after? Add the cheese and breadcrumbs before the freeze? Trying to stock a freezer for a family in need.
I would freeze before baking. Add cheese and breadcrumbs before freezing. Then write on the top of the foil to thaw and freeze and then the heating temp and time. You are awesome to help this family in need!
We love this recipe! I make it once a week!I always add cheese to the insides plus on top!
I don’t see anything as to how to make the sauce or how much chicken, cheese or broccoli please post the recipe. Thanks
You need to scroll down in the post and the full recipe is there!
I don’t like curry. Can something else be substituted in it’s place or can I just omit it all together?
You can just leave it out if you don’t like it.
I daycare for the taste of curry powder. What spice would you suggest as a substitute?
You would be fine to just go without. It only calls for 1/2 teaspoon.
One of my go to recipes! I add a drained can of corn before the layer of cheese. Soo good and so simple!
