It really doesn’t get any easier than this dump cake. All it takes is a can of pie filling, a box of cake mix, and some butter.
If you have never made a dump cake before, this is the perfect recipe to start with. It is so yummy, and it is really impossible to mess up.
It’s inexpensive to make, feeds a crowd, and is the perfect dessert to serve, all year round. It is so fruity and full of delicious flavor. You are going to love this dump cake recipe.
Top it off with a scoop of ice cream or a a dollop of whipped cream and you are good to go. Enjoy!
does the cake mix really go on dry?
I know it is hard to believe, but yes. The cake mix does go on like it is. It will seem like it is going to be dry, and not bake, but I promise you, with all the fruit and the butter, it will bake perfectly into a buttery crust.
When you are pouring on the melted butter, try to make it as even as possible. This will help the entire top cook evenly.
I promise, it will cook and won’t be floury, when you take it out of the oven.
what other pie filling would be good with this recipe?
This recipe calls for raspberry pie filling. I personally love myself a good raspberry filling, but this could easily be switched out for something else, or another filling of choice. It also pairs nicely with the apple.
Here are a few other pie filings we recommend trying, with this recipe:
- cherry pie filling
- blueberry pie filling
- blackberry pie filling
- strawberry pie filling
- rhubarb pie filling

We make this with cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple with a yellow cake mix. We love it!
We’ve been making dump cake for years! Our recipe is always crushed pineapple on the bottom, 2 cans pure filling next, sift a cake mix on top of that. Slice 1 stick cold butter and place on top of cake mix. Top with chopped nuts (optional). Bake at 350 for 60 minutes. Add some vanilla ice cream when serving. Raspberry is my favorite, my dad loves blueberry. Always a hit.
Nice easy recipe. Thank you and have a Super-Duper Week.
Do you have to grease and flour the cake pan when making the dump. cakes?
Really no need to grease and flour the pan because the fruit goes in first. Slightly spraying with a non stick cooking spray would not hurt. Hope this helps and thanks so much for stopping by our blog Six Sisters Stuff! Have a great day!
So the cake mix stays in its dry form (like flour)??
Yes, just pour it on straight from the box. Be sure to break up any big cake mix chunks.
Where do you find canned raspberry & strawberry pie fillings? I have not seen them in our local stores.
We found raspberry and strawberry pie filling at Wal Mart and at our local grocery stores.
Just substitute the 20 ounces of apple pie filling with raspberry filling in addition to the smaller can of raspberry pie filling as called for in the ingredients.
Can I Make it from make it from a sugar free cake mix from a mix.
They are like delicious
We have not personally tried this recipe with a sugar free cake mix. It may work where the cake mix is sprinkled over the top of the fruit. Then butter is drizzled over the top.
