This year I decided to put a twist on the classic Chex Party Mix and try putting it in my husbands smoker to make Smoky Cheddar Chex™ Party Mix. Oh. My. Goodness. The flavor was UNREAL and I knew I needed to share!
Using Chex Cereal in our party mixes is so easy and there are hundreds of different recipes you can make! We also LOVE that they are gluten free, making it so much easier when hosting any gluten intolerant guests.

How to Make Smoky Cheddar Chex Party Mix in the Oven:
- Preheat oven to 325℉ and line a baking sheet with foil or use a large foil pan.
- Mix your Chex Cereal, cheese crackers, gold fish, pretzels and Bugles in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, melt butter and stir in onion powder, garlic salt, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke.
- Pour mixture over dry mix and stir until completely coated.
- Place on a foil lined baking sheet, and bake at 325℉ for 45 minutes, or until dry, stirring every 15 minutes to avoid burning.
- Let cool and store in an airtight container.
How to make Smoky Cheddar Chex Party Mix in the Smoker:
- Prepare Chex Party Mix as described in oven directions, leaving out the liquid smoke.
- We found it easiest to smoke in a large foil Pasta Pan.
- Smoke at 225℉ for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
Storage Instructions
For daily snacking, keep your mix in a cool, dry place like a pantry.
- Shelf Life: It stays fresh for 2 weeks on average, though it tastes best if eaten within the first 2–3 days.
- Avoid the Fridge: Never store Chex Mix in the refrigerator; the cold and humidity will cause it to lose its crunch and become soggy.
- Airtight Container: Transfer cooled mix to a tightly sealed Tupperware, glass jar, or heavy-duty Ziploc bag. Squeeze as much air as possible out of bags to maintain crispness.

A couple of questions.,,can this be converted into a slow cooker recipe and can Shreddies be used as that is more readily available in Canada instead of Chex.
How would the recipes change?
This recipe is a new post, so we have not tried it in a slow cooker. I’m sure Shreddies are similar to Chex in America. We used rice Chex and wheat Chex for this recipe.
