Slow Cooker Sweet Teriyaki Chicken Recipe
This simple crock pot recipe is full of flavor and easy to throw together. We love to serve it over rice.
Serving servings
Ingredients
- 2 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, (mine were frozen)
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup onion
- 4 cups white rice, cooked
Equipment
Instructions
- Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
- Place chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- In a sauce pan heat soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and chopped onion over medium heat until boiling.
- Pour sauce over the chicken in the slow cooker.
- Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
- Serve over cooked rice.
Notes
We also love to serve this with stir-fried vegetables. I just buy a bag from the frozen foods section and fry it on the stove top when the chicken has about 10 minutes left to cook.
You could also dump a bag of frozen stir-fried vegetables into the slow cooker for the last 20 minutes of cook time for the chicken.

I think I’m making this for dinner tomorrow. 1 cup of sugar sounds like so much though! I just discovered your blog and look forward to trying a recipe or two! Thanks!
@Anonymous- I know it seems like a lot. It’s kind of a “sweeter” teriyaki chicken . . . the sugar is what probably makes it so delicious! :)We are happy that you found our blog!
This looks so yummy! I am excited to try it! I will be pinning it to my “favorite recipies” on pinterest! You have some great stuff on here! keep up the good work! 🙂
I am waiting for dinner! I am single and so I made it with 2 chicken breasts, and 1/4 c of sugar and soy sauce with 1/2 tsp. of garlic salt and use your judgment on onions.
Smells yummy already!
When you say that your chicken breasts were frozen (I’ve seen this in several of your awesome recipes)… do you thaw them beforehand? Thank you!!!
Jennie…I throw the chicken right into the crockpot frozen. The first time I did this I was leary, but don’t fear…you’ll have moist, flavorful chicken that’s completely cooked.
I kept coming across your mouth-watering recipes on Pinterest so I ended up subscribing to your wonderful blog 🙂
This was very yummy!
I used frozen chicken thighs because I had them. I only used 1/2 cup of Soy Sauce(I use BRAGG’s and it is costly) and 1/2 cup of sugar and dried onion flakes(my kids hate onion but don’t mind the dried onion)
I made some very thin rice noodles, and made some veggie stir fry as well. Placed the noodles with some Teriyaki sauce on a bowl and topped it with the chicken and veggies, everyone at it all up!
I was also thinking that you could marinate the chicken the night before to intensify the flavors if desired.
Thank you, Kathy… this will be tonight’s dinner! We just had our 3rd baby 2 months ago, & I have a hard time remembering to thaw things, so this will make it much easier! Thank you for your help!
Hi ladies!
I just want to thank you for sharing this awesome recipe. I am featuring your dish on my blog today. Thank you again!!
I made this tonight for dinner and … Yumm-mo! “Mom, this is Soooo good”. “Mom, can I please have some more.”. And the best one was from my daughter that doesn’t like ANYthing…”Mom, this chicken tastes kinda weird, weird but GOOD.”. I will totally be doing this dinner again! Soooo easy and delicious! Thanks for sharing your deliciousness!
Oh and my son was too busy inhaling to make any comments ;). I think he actually choked a little eating so fast. 😉
I didnt realize the chicken you used was frozen. I have been thawing mine out since this morning. they are still solid, but not frozen, is this ok, or just cook less? I am trying this for dinner tonight! Thanks so much!
I made this tonight but used dark brown sugar instead of regular sugar. It came out fantastic and we all enjoyed it, even my picky kids 🙂 Thanks for this recipe – it’s super easy, tasty, and definitely a keeper!
Making tonight, sounds so yummy. Used real garlic and sea salt and half the sugar. Can’t wait!
I made this tonight and it was okay, much too salty for me D:
I used real garlic butother than that I made it as stated.
I think next time I will use teriyaki sauce or low sodium soy sauce and add veggies try to tweat it a bit more to my liking. Besides the saltiness it was very good.
Hi Shauna!Sorry it took so long to respond. Hope it turned out okay! I am sure that is fine to still cook as directed!
I made this without using a slow cooker. I cubed the chicken, cooked it in oil, & then added the sauce (added ground ginger & red pepper flakes). It was very good. I do think it was a little salty but my husband thought it was great.
I made this tonight– and it was FABULOUS! My guy friend literally ate every bit so we have no leftovers!
Great recipe! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I made this and only used 1/2 cup sugar. It was fantastic! My hubs and son both ate 2 pieces of chicken and son asked for a third! Then the next morning he asked if we could have it again that night.
Thanks for posting!
Hi ladies! My husband and I were looking for a good (and easy!) recipe to do that I could easily make gluten free (kikkoman makes a delicious GF soy sauce!) I ran across this recipe on google although I’ve seen you guys on pinterest plenty- and it was delicious!! My husband and I both enjoyed it immensely. Thanks for this awesome and simple recipe!!
Why do you use soy sauce and not teriyaki sauce? It looks delicious.
