We didn’t go out to eat very often growing up. Usually at birthdays or other celebrations.
You can imagine how expensive it would be to take a family of 8 out to dinner!
I know it isn’t the healthiest thing to be excited about, but I always loved when McDonald’s had “Big Mac Monday”, which meant that their juicy sandwiches were only 99 cents!
We could usually convince my parents to not pass up such a great deal! 🙂
I still love a Big Mac now and then and thought I would enjoy it even more if I could make it myself.
Let me tell you, this “secret sauce” is spot on! Oh. My. Goodness. It was almost better than the real thing! Try it. You won’t be sorry!

As some one who worked there in high school way back when, you are close to having it right. It is sauce, onions, lettuce and cheese on the bottom and sauce, onion, lettuce and pickles on top.
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun. The onions are missing from this recipe. Guess I’ll just go a head and add them as well. Looks delish!
Oh my goodness, thank you for sharing this. This looks so good and easy to make at home.
Chelsie, I feel the same way. I have stayed away from McDonald’s for a few years, but sometimes I just want a big mac and fry so bad.
We lived in southern California when the Big Macs came out & believe it or not, the sauce was available at the grocery store starting in 1970 or so. Havent seen it since moving back East. Does anyone know if it can still be bought at stores? I cant remember if it was actually labeled “Big Mac”. I do remember we were thrilled when we saw it. (Probably patented or copyrighted today).
Thank you for sharing this!! I just made it and it’s stupendous!! Pure joy!! Thanks again!!
Yummm! making this ASAP…. Thank You

It’s not cheddar cheese though it has to be American cheese!
Love It!
I remember Big Bobs dressing, it was my into to 1,000 island.
Is French dressing in a bottle?
Yes. Like Western brand or Catalina is the Kraft version.
I love this recipe. It’s very close to the real thing, but where is the recipe for the special sauce? Can you email it to me, please?
You didn’t scroll down far enough. It’s in the recipe card on the blog post.
I have a Big Mac Sauce Copycat from a former McDonald’s CEO
Ingredients:
1 cup mayo (Helmond used in video)
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
2 Tbsp dusseldorf mustard
1 Tbsp white vinegar
1 1/4 tsp paprika
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp granulated garlic
1/8 tsp white pepper
Mix all ingredients together until well mixed and a pale orange color is achieved
He said the paprika is what gives it that color. I tried it & it did taste similar but if yours is better I will give it a try too! Just putting the one from the CEO out there so others can give it a try
