Oh how fun and YUMMY! I get Oreo cravings every now and then and it would be great to just make them ourselves. 🙂
Mmmmm, Oreos!!

There’s a recipe in Thomas Keller’s – Bouchon Bakery cookbook for homemade oreos that I really want to try. These also look delicious, thanks for sharing!

This looks like such an easy recipe! Gotta love cake mixes:)
My husband loves Oreos more than any other {store bought} cookie! I’m excited to make these!
Looks great. What is the texture – are these crunchy or soft? Thanks!
Oreos are my favorite cookie!! I can’t wait to try these. They look amazing!!
They are soft and oh soooooo good!
These look divine – I’d probably eat the whole batch though 🙂
These look great- and I know anything by Six Sisters is fantastic!
My older son could live on Oreos. I think I’ll make these with him. Already pinned it. Thanks so much!
MMM… I love Oreos, I must try these!
Yum! Everything is better when it’s homemade!
I made these today and they are divine! What is the best way to store them?
my daughters would love to help me make something like these in the kitchen! Thanks for sharing at Foodtastic Friday!
In an airtight container to keep them fresh. But if by chance they last more than a day I would stick them in the fridge. So glad you liked them. -The Six Sisters
homemade stomps all over store bought, giggle. xo
So simple and looks so good. I’ll bet children would love to help making (and eating) these. 🙂

All of these comments are great. Has anyone actually made them and tried them? I’m just curious if they actually TASTE like Oreo’s. I just love this idea. I’m an oreo lover!
We make them all of the time and they are the first cookies to go at a party. They don’t taste just like an oreo, but they are delicious. The chocolate cookie part is soft. So you have the chocolate cookie with the vanilla cream filling. YUM.
Homemade oreos… they look amazing! This would be a great party treat for my son 🙂 I will tell myself these oreos a little healthier because they’re homemade, right?! I found your blog on the What I Learned Wednesday link-up.
Thanks for sharing this! Amy

literally just got done making these! I love them to death. Little pointer, let the cookie part cool completely before putting the frosting on…when they are still warm the frosting just oozes right out. Learned that the hard way, made quite a mess! LOL. Mine turned out really, REALLY sweet. I couldn’t eat more then one, but they are still fabulous!
Hi! Just wondering if I can substitute butter for the shortening?
Hi Marcie, we have always used shortening. Butter would probably work, but you may get a flatter cookie because butter melts at a lower temp than shortening. Butter would surely add a yummier flavor.

My family loves, loves, LOVES these! I have found they taste better with a Betty Crocker cake mix instead of Duncan Hines, the Duncan Hines are grainy and don’t flatten out at all for some odd reason. I have three sons so I always double the recipe, and recently made a very unfortunate discovery… My boys would eat them all in one day if I let them, so I put half of them in the freezer to slow them down. Turns out they taste AMAZING frozen! Seriously, as delicious as they are, they are 10 times better frozen! They taste like the most amazing ice cream sandwich! Now when I make them we put them ALL in the freezer! Awesome summer treat! Thanks for introducing us to our new family favorite!
Love these and have made them in the past. However, the recipe is no longer working on this website. All it gives are the ingredients with no instructions. Thanks!
Here is the recipe for the homemade oreos. Sorry about that. We will try and get the oreo post fixed soon.

Does All Vegetable shortening work?
We used regular white Crisco. Regular or butter flavor should be fine. The butter flavor will add more of a butter flavor to the cookies.
