Our BBQ Sloppy Joes are not your average sloppy joe recipe.
Instead of using a tomato paste base with brown sugar, this one is loaded with bbq sauce and tasty green peppers, lean ground beef, and diced onions that the whole family will love.

Since this recipe does not have the Worcestershire sauce, you will get those delicious sweet flavors in your bbq turkey sloppy joes, that might just make a big hit at home and turn this into a new family favorite sloppy joes recipe.

Ingredient Notes
- Ground beef (or ground turkey or ground chicken)
- Diced onion
- Green pepper diced (or red pepper will work too!)
- Barbeque sauce
- Salt
- Pepper
- Hamburger buns

How to make BBQ Sloppy Joes:
- Brown meat in a saucepan over medium heat.
- After meat is almost cooked through, add onion and pepper and saute for 5 minutes, or until vegetables are soft.
- Add barbecue sauce and warm on the stovetop until heated through. Season with salt and pepper, as desired.
- Serve on hamburger buns.

Storing and Other Tips
To Store, let the sloppy joes cool down fully before transferring to an airtight container and storing in the fridge. Leftovers will last 3-4 days. You can reheat either in the microwave, or using the stovetop.
Here are some add on ideas to make this sandwich even better:
- Creamy coleslaw
- More bbq sauce (we love the sweet baby ray’s barbecue sauce)
- Freshly chopped bell peppers
- Cheddar cheese
- Finely chopped onions
- Crushed Doritos

Thanks for the recipe. Sloppy Joe’s are my favorite comfort food.
Thank you.
What is the white I see in the filling of the sandwich ?
I wondered the same thing and then i took a very close look and if you look closely it seems that there is a hamburger in the center and something like baked beans on top and then the bun top.
I think this is a phot of something else that was used for the BBQ SLoppy Joe shot.
Just saying! BUt whatever this is it looks good.
We used ground turkey for the picture. The recipe suggests using ground beef or ground turkey. Both options are delicious!
This was a big hit with my 4 boys and husband, and super easy for me. Thanks for the recipe!
Recipe sounds great, but that is not a picture of ground beef!!!
It is ground turkey. In the ingredients it says you can use ground beef or ground turkey! Both are so delicious!
I think the picture IS of the recipe. Those who say it’s not need to look again. There’s nothing “white” in the sandwich, that’s a reflection of the light in the sauce. There are no beans. That’s meat, again there’s a reflection from sauce and perhaps a bit of onion. Wild imagination you all have
