Did You Make This Recipe? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Leave a review or a question in the comment section below the post.

The dinner looks delicious, but I am in love with your bean pot!!
Slower cooker & chicken are two of my favorite things. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this!
When you said 4, you meant 4 chicken breasts, right? I wanna make sure.
Looks bomb!
Got to try this. Looks good and I love easy!
That looks fantastic! 🙂 Megan
Add the rice UNCOOKED correct? 🙂
Yes. Uncooked. 🙂
Hi Six Sisters,
Another awesome recipe!!! I’ll definitely spread the word! Please keep it comin! I’m always looking for 4-5 ingredient recipes.
P.S.
I’ve already book marked your post.
Hi Lindsay,
If you like slow cooking & chicken stop by crockpotking.com & feel free to roam around.
Thanks,
Ben
Hi Deliciously Delilah,
I have more recipes if interested. Trust me a crock pot is for anyone on the go!, or if you just want to get cooking out of the way!Drop a line at crockpotking@yahoo.com, if interested in more recipe, or just go to http://www.crockpotking.com
If you cook this in the bean pot, you would put all ingredients in (same order as the crock pot?)
Does the rice get too mushy being in there 2-3 hours?
Hi Amber!
I didn’t have a problem with my rice being mushy since you put it in uncooked.
Hi Debbo,
Yes, just put the ingredients in in the same order. Thanks!
Yes. 🙂 Hope you like it!
I just put the chicken in the corckpot. I am going to add the rice before we leave for SS and worship. The timing should work out perfectly and we can come home to a cool house and a warm lunch. Thanks for the easy recipe.
I am new to cooking and have a question. I’m getting ready to make this tomorrow and was wondering if I mix the cream of chicken soup with water before putting it over the chicken or if I mix the soup with the 7-up. thank you!
Hi Serena!
Just mix the contents of the can of soup with your 7UP. Hope you like it! Thanks!
Made this tonight… 4 adults including myself all thought it was really bland and overall not good. It LOOKED like the picture and I followed the recipe perfect. My brother in law said it tasted like slop you’d get in jail.
Thank you so much for this recipe! It was a winner our house!
Can I use diet 7UP?
I tried this last night, and posted the recipe on my blog! I linked it all back to you; hope that’s okay.
WOW what a mean remark. Just don’t make it again, that should do you. To tell someone that their recipe tasted like slop was a little uncalled for. I don’t know how long ur brother in law has been out of jail(since he knows what the food taste like there) but this does not taste like slop.
can you freeze this recipe? or does it not turn out right?
Hi Margaret!
I think diet 7UP would work just fine. Let us know how it goes!
I have never tried to freeze this. I am not sure how it would work freezing it with the uncooked rice, but if you cooked it and then packaged it really good to be frozen, it might work. Let us know if you try it. We would love to hear how it goes!
We tried this last week. It was ok. I would probably change out the cream of chicken for cream of mushroom and use bone in chicken drumsticks and thighs bc they give off some flavorful juices.
The chicken was fantastic, but we did think that the rice was too mushy. I will try Uncle Ben’s next time, instead of Minute Rice. I would also put in some herbs next time, too, for a little bit of a flavor punch.
P.S.–diet 7up worked great in this!
I posted about this below–we thought it was a bit too mushy but I wonder if using something like Uncle Ben’s next time, instead of minute rice, will help.
I am going to go and put this in the crock pot in about an hour. Instead of using sprite I am going to use Pineapple crush. And I buy the zatarin’s rice. I am going to use that. Excited!
I don’t care for cream of chicken, it is way to salty. How would it taste if I just left it out or is there something else I can use? I have chicken base and chicken bouillon, would it be fine to just use one of those without the cream of chicken?
I am not sure what you could use as a substitute. I have only ever made it with cream of chicken. I do know they sell low sodium cream of chicken. You could also use cream of mushroom or something similar.
I assume the crock temp is low?
Donna the recipe says low. 🙂
Hi Donna,
Yes, cook it on low the whole time. Thanks!
How long and at what temp should I use for bean pot in the oven?
Wow! The recipes look great and all, but I want to comment on the 6 sisters! Holy smokes!! I just want to move to Utah-marry all of you-then rest on Sunday!! I’m just sayin 🙂
Hi Jeanette! Here are the directions for a bean pot:
Place chicken breast in bean pot. Cover with soup and 7up. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. Add rice and chicken broth and bake 1 more hour.
Thanks!
Great recipe! Made it tonight and my 2 year old even approved!
I also made this and it was very bland. Mine also looked just like the picture. If I ever made it again I would be sure to add some seasonings. Anything would help. We did not enjoy it at all.
I made this for dinner tonight. It was ok.
Hey there! My husband and I are newly married and I was asking my co-workers what they make when they’re in a hurry and one of them recommended me to this site. She did warn me that the recipe was a little bland and that I might want to add some of my own seasonings so I did. My husband likes things spicy so I added some Cajun seasoning and cayenne pepper and garlic powder. I wouldn’t cook the rice in the crockpot because it does get mushy but if you use the minute rice it’ll be quick and easy. Husband says it’s an A+ and to keep this recipe in my file! 🙂
I made this for dinner tonight and my husband loved it! I did add a packet of onion soup mix and a pinch of rosemary for extra flavor, and it was yummy! Thanks for the recipe. 🙂
🙁 Gotta admit…it was bland.
Do you put the chicken in frozen?
Hi!
Yes, we used frozen chicken breasts.
just made it tonight and it was delicious! I put the rice in only half an hour before it was done and the rice was perfect no mush!
I made this and wrote about it here. It was an easy meal but I used regular rice and it never cooked quite through. It was much better heated up with a bit of water in the microwave. We also topped ours with mexican jalapeno cheese for a bit of spice.
I wish i could figure out the trick to cooking rice in the crockpot. So far I’ve had miserable luck with it.
Thanks for sharing your recipe.
My son is lactose intolerant so we make a from scratch substitute of cream of … soups. Here is the link to the one I use, I just like you add whichever seasonings you like.

I made this last week and my family loved it! I didn’t have sprite on hand so I used Mountain Dew (yeah, I know). I also had to use brown rice since I was out of white, so during the second half of cooking I turned the temp up to high (because I was afraid the rice wouldn’t get done). It was awesome! And right before serving I added a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. They didn’t need any cooking time since it was so hot. The whole thing was great, IMO. The chicken was so tender! Making it again tonight!
Do you put the chicken in frozen or do you defrost it?
You can put it in frozen. May have to cook for an extra hour.
Do you defrost the chicken or put it in frozen?
i used cream of mushroom soup instead of creamy chicken is that ok
Yikes! 4 lbs and 4 individual chicken breasts is a huge discrepancy….
I bet if you adding some Goya Sazon would take care of the blandness….
The 7-up did not cover the chicken, do I need to add some broth or will it be ok?
It will be fine. Halfway through the cooking you could turn the chicken over and rearrange them in the crock pot
Wow. Glad I came back to read the comments, as I have 3 # of chicken breast defrosting! That IS a HUGE discrepancy!
Good to know. I have all the ingredients out and ready to go but think that I will look for another recipe. I hate when I spend time and money on a recipe and it’s just mediocre.
I love my bean pot from celebrating home!
Thanks for the comment! It saved me from wasting my time which by the way is the point of having comments!
Excellent!! One ii will make again and again!!
Many of the reviews said this was bland & rice gummy so I expounded and added capers, chicken/turkey seasoning, juice/zest of 1 lemon, 3 cloves of garlic pressed, used Uncle Bens reg rice, and boneless thighs instead of breasts (bone in would have even been better). Yum!
Can you use brown rice instead of minute rice? If so, how much longer would I need to leave in crockpot?
Thanks,
Sue
We have not used brown rice so we are not sure how it will all turn out. It should be fine where it cooks in the slow cooker for 2 to 3 hours.
Just made this tonight and while it was truly very easy, it does need some seasoning. I will make it again and add some salt/pepper during the first phase. That should do it.
I’m thinking of making this for a group dinner. What would you recommend for a side dish?
Hi Sharon! Go to our recipe index tab on our main blog page. There is a tab called side dishes/vegetables. You should be able to find all kinds of recipes to serve with the 7up chicken and rice. Maybe a green side salad for color. A roll or breadstick. Some type of vegetable dish. Hope this helps!
Beautiful! Will do 🙂
A top poultry seasoning would help this dish enormously. I faithfully use Paul Prudhomme’s Poultry Magic.
As the others have said, that’s a big difference maybe change it to 1.5lbs? I have 4 chicken breasts coming in at 1.9lbs. Like seriously, it would be helpful to others if you edited you post. I almost cut the recipe in half unnecessarily.
I am going to try this recipe out for myself. But I think what I’m gonna do is mix the soda, soup and broth together and cook over the chicken. I will cook the rice separate and serve the chicken over the rice. That should eliminate the rice getting mushy doing the cooking process.
I’m making this tonight for dinner, I’m going to use poultry seasoning and also omit the rice from the crock pot and cook seperate, I’m going to use 2 chicken breasts cause hubby likes that and also drumsticks, making broccoli and cauliflower for my veggie and breadsticks as well
I STARTED THIS AT 6PM AND DIDN’T TURN OFF TIL 7AM. I USED 3 LARGE CHICKEN BREAST, 12 OZ 7UP, FAMILY SIZE CREAM OF MUSHROOM, 1/3 C WATER AND TWO POUCHES OF KNORR RICE WITH THE FLAVORING ALREADY IN THEM. NEXT TIME I WOULD MIX THE LIQUIDS AND AND RICE POUCHES THEN POUR OVER THE FROZEN CHICKEN. WHEN I PUT IT AWAY I CLEANED UP THE SPOON. IT WAS YUMMY TO ME, THE RICE WAS MUSHY BUT THAT’S THE WAY WE LIKE IT. I’D GIVE IT A 5 STAR
