Can you use diet Coke? I’ve never cooked with pop before, but I’ve heard you can only use regular… -Becky
I use diet coke/pepsi all the time for dishes!!! I NEVER use the full version. 🙂
I love Coca Cola Barbecue Chicken
Can you use chicken on the bone? I have frozen half chickens in the freezer I would love to try this recipe on…
Hi Tabitha!
That would work just fine! Let us know how it goes!
trying this tonight! can’t wait-looks so good 🙂
Hi Becky!
Some of our other readers told us that it works just fine with diet soda. Thanks!
I set out to make this yesterday..only to get home from the store to realize I didn’t have any chicken! So I decided to try it with a pound of ground chuck and pork sausage then call it sloppy joes. My hubby LOVED it. He says it tastes just like a Mcrib. He is in love!! Thanks 🙂
I made this for tonight and the house is smelling amazing, can’t wait to eat it 🙂
Do you shred the chicken for sandwiches are just eat the chicken regularly? Thanks!
I am from Canada, we have a few different sizes of cans for pop. What size was used for this recipe. Thanks, I do want to try it,
I would also like to know if you shred the chicken for sandwiches.
Thanks!!
I would also like to know if you shred the chicken for sandwiches.
Thanks!!
A 12 ounce can.
You can definitely shred this for sandwiches. It is awesome on a roll or bun. -The Six Sisters
What kind of bbq sauce do you use? Depending on my recipe, I will use a sweet/spicy one or a sweet one… What do you like?
We use all kinds, usually the one on sale. We do like a good Sweet Baby Rays! 🙂 -The Six Sisters
Can you use bottled coke as well as long as it is 12 ounces (I don’t have any cans)? And also, do you just put the lemon on top of the chicken, peel and all? Thanks! =)
Bottled coke is great. And yes, put the lemon on top of the chicken…peel and all! 🙂 -The Six Sisters
I have a ton of juice left. am I supposed to?
I’m guessing you are talking about in the crock pot after cooking. We had juices left in the crock pot. You could use some of the liquid if you shred your chicken and want it juicier. Some readers put the shredded chicken on a bun or roll. Hope this helps. 🙂
Letting this crock over night…used legs and thighs…will have potato salad and roasted corn. 🙂
Hello! I’m excited to try this for company tomorrow night. I’ll be serving 11 – do you think I should double the ingredients? Thanks so much!
Recipe calls for 4 to 6 chicken breasts. So it would depend if they each want a whole chicken breast. If you are feeding 11 and some are men, for sure I would double it. You may need to do it in 2 separate crock pots with that much chicken.
I bought all of the ingredients to make on vacation but just realized I forgot the crock pot!!! Can I simmer the chicken in a pot on the stove???
That should work. Just be sure to watch it closely so it doesn’t burn.
I don’t hAve lemon on hand just lemon juice. Think it will make a difference or should I just omit the lemon?
You could omit it all together or just add 1 teaspoon or so of lemon juice.
definitely going to make this for my lady for valentine’s day, simple and sounds delish!
It is just my husband and I and seldom use our Crock Pot but would like to try this one, therefore, I would only use 2 chicken breast. Would I cut the ingredients in half? And how long should I cook them? Thanks!
You can cut the rest of the recipe in half when using 2 chicken breast, or you could also leave the recipe as is. It may not take as long to cook, so keep an eye on it and check for doneness.
Can you make this a freezer meal with the coke?
I would make it into a freezer meal and not add the coke until it’s time to cook. Just have the Coke on hand when you thaw the food and are ready to place in the slow cooker.
