Instant Pot Smoky BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches Recipe

This simple Instant Pot Pulled Pork recipe is so easy to throw together but tastes like something you would order from a BBQ restaurant. The bbq pulled pork seriously falls apart when it's done cooking.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds pork roast
  • 3 Tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • cup liquid smoke
  • 18 ounces BBQ Sauce one bottle, any variety
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

Instant Pot Pulled Pork

  • Plug in Instant Pot and turn on.
  • Add pork roast to bottom of Instant Pot, then add paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, liquid smoke, barbeque sauce, and water.
  • Twist lid on and turn lid knob to “sealing” not “venting.”
  • Click “Manual” and set timer for 60 minutes.
  • Let release for at least 10 minutes, then remove lid.
  • If pork is too tough to shred, twist lid back on and cook longer as needed.
  • Pick roast up with forks, shred, and serve on buns.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

  • Add ingredients to slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours. (You do not need to add ½ cup water to the slow cooker.)

Notes

  • Add 1/2 cup of water or broth right before you close the lid. This allows for steam to happen so the meat doesn’t dry out.
How to make this into a freezer meal:

How to turn this into a freezer meal:

Place roast, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, liquid smoke, and BBQ sauce into a gallon-sized freezer bag. Place freezer bag into freezer and it will last up to 60 days.
When ready to use, dump ingredients from bag into Instant Pot and add 1/2 cup of beef broth or water in with the frozen food.
Place the lid on top, move the valve to SEALING, and press the MANUAL button. Set timer for 90-100 minutes (or about 30 minutes per pound of your roast).
Do a NATURAL RELEASE when the timer is done – I even like to let it sit in the Instant Pot for a few hours so that it falls apart so easily. Follow the rest of the instructions as written.
