Jello Worms in Oreo Dirt Recipe

  • 6 ounces strawberry jello
  • 3 envelopes unflavored knox gelatin
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • ½ cup whipping cream
  • 10 drops green food coloring
  • 14.3 ounces Oreo Cookies
  • 80 straws, with bendable neck


  • Extend the bendable neck straws to full length and then pack them tightly into a tall glass container or some type of tall container. Hold them together with an elastic.
  • In a large bowl combine jello and gelatine packets. Pour boiling water over jello mixture and stir until dissolved. Let it cool for about 15 minutes and then add the whipping cream and food coloring. (The food coloring gives it a deeper red color)
  • Carefully pour the jello into the straws. Some of the liquid will creep up the side of the glass. That is normal and will actually show you how full your straws are.
  • Place in the fridge for about 1 to 2 hours.
  • Crush oreos in the food processor or place oreos in a plastic bag and crush coarsely with a rolling pin. We left the oreo cream filling in the cookies. Place the crumbs in a bowl or serving dish.
  • Remove straws from the fridge and remove the bunch from your tall container. Remove the elastics and try to wipe off some of the excess jello. Break the straws apart and gently run each straw under warm water for about 4 to 5 seconds. Squeeze them out by holding onto one end of the straw and squeezing them with your fingers right onto the oreo crumbs. Place all of the worms on the bed of oreo dirt.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve.
