Twisted Pretzel Bites Recipe

I am loving our Twisted Pretzel Bites. They only take a few minutes to throw together, and have the most amazing flavor. You are going to love how simple and delicious these are.

These tasty pretzel bites are so easy to make, you’ll never stop by the pretzel shop in the mall again.  They are so soft and perfect for dipping in your favorite sauce.
These make the perfect appetizer for any party, or game day. We even make them for movie night, or family night.
This is a great recipe to get your little ones involved in. They will love twisting the pretzel bites, and of course sampling them.

how should i cut my strips?

As explained in the directions, you will want to cut your strips into 3 1/2 inch long pieces.

Then will a glass cup or a rolling pin, roll them out into 5 inch long strips. If you do them any smaller, they will be too thick, and will still be doughy after you cook them.

what else could i dip my twisted pretzel bites in?

I love these Twisted Pretzel Bites, because they are so versatile. You could literally make any of your favorite combinations. Here is what we recommend:

Garlic Parmesan: Before you sprinkle on the salt, you could also add a little bit of garlic salt, and parmesan cheese to some melted butter, and baste the pretzel bites. Then add your salt if desired.

Cinnamon and Sugar Dipped in Frosting: I love cinnamon and sugar pretzels. We recommend sprinkling them with cinnamon and sugar instead of the salt, and dipping them in frosting.

If you are looking for a homemade frosting recipe, try our Cream Cheese Frosting recipe. They will taste like a cinnamon roll.

Marinara Sauce: I love the combination of marinara sauce and pretzels. They taste like a warm buttery breadstick, and pair perfectly with marinara sauce.

Alfredo Sauce: This is also an amazing combination you will love with the breadsticks. It would even be delicious if you did the Garlic Parmesan twisted pretzels, and dipped it in the Alfredo sauce.

Twisted Pretzel Bites Recipe

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Flour
  • 1 (13.8 ounce) can refrigerated pizza crust
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
  • 1 (10 ounce) jar queso dip, heated


  1. Heat oven to 450 degrees. 
  2. Spray baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. 
  3. Unroll dough on a lightly floured surface. 
  4. Cut the dough into 3 x 1/2 inch strips.  Using your hands, roll each strip into a rope about 5 inches long. 
  5. Tie each strip into a knot and place on the baking sheet.
  6. In a large sauce pan, heat 5 cups of water and the baking soda until it boils. 
  7. Drop dough knots, 6 at a time, into the boiling water. 
  8. Let the knots cook for about 30 seconds or until dough looks slightly puffy and dimpled. 
  9. Using a slotted spoon, remove knots from the water and place on the cookie sheet about 1/2 inch apart. 
  10. Brush knots with egg and sprinkle on salt.
  11. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until well browned. 
  12. Serve pretzel bites with warm queso dip or any dip you prefer.

  1. I made these tonight with the whole grain artisan pizza dough! They were super good! I used traditional yellow mustard to dip them in. Just beware that the baking soda does give it a salty taste so keep that in mind when you're adding the salt. I also brushed mine with butter when they first came out of the oven! Would definitely make these again! Thanks!
  2. I tried these for New Years Eve; DELISH!! So excited to have "homemade" soft pretzels that don't require actually making the dough :D Question: I'm thinking about simplifying it even further and cutting slightly shorter and wider pieces, skipping the knotting, and going for more of a nugget. Do you think this would turn out if I followed the rest of the directions as noted? Thanks for your advice!
