Slow Cooker Swiss Steak

I am all about slow cooker meals. I love putting them in my slow cooker in the morning, and coming home to dinner made and ready. Makes me feel spoiled. This Slow Cooker Swiss Steak is also my favorite slow cooker recipe. It is so tasty.

We eat a lot of chicken in our house – and while we’ve found a lot of ways to cook it, it’s still nice to have a little bit of red meat every now and then.

This Slow Cooker Swiss Steak is really SO easy – and the sauce makes a delicious gravy to serve over mashed potatoes. It’s a great hearty meal for those cold, winter days.

If you are looking for a simple and quick dinner recipe, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

It is honestly the BEST slow cooker recipe I have made. My husband was shocked that it came from the slow cooker, because it was just that good, and I was shocked at how simple it was to throw together.

do i put the steaks in the slow cooker thawed or frozen?

For this recipe, I have only made it using thawed steaks. However, you could do frozen, they will just need a little extra cooking time.

Steak doesn’t last long in my fridge or my freezer, with my meat loving husband, so we buy our steaks fresh, then usually cook them within 2-3 days of purchasing, so I have never made it frozen.

add some veggies:

I love recipes where I can sneak in vegetables, and my kids or husband don’t even notice.

This is one of those recipes. It’s so easy to sneak in some veggies, and my kids have no idea. My husband is also a picky veggie eater, and he usually doesn’t notice either.

Here are a few of my favorite vegetables to sneak in to the recipe, without them even knowing:

  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Bell Peppers
  • Spinach
  • Zucchini
  • Celery
  • Corn

You can really sneak in just about any vegetable. It’s such a delicious recipe and so simple to throw together. Also pretty healthy, which makes me feel like mom of the year, with this one.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs round steak
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 2 14.5-oz cans diced tomatoes (and juice)
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (I used fresh, but you can use canned instead)
  • 2 cloves garlic, diced

Instructions

  1. Pat down your steak with the flour (you can cut it up into strips, I kept mine in whole steaks for my husband and me).
  2. In a slow cooker, place your diced onions, tomatoes, wrcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mushrooms and garlic. Add the floured round steak.
  3. Cook on low for 8-10 hours

Notes

We like ours best served over mashed potatoes. The sauce it cooks in makes a really yummy gravy.
