This Chicken Fried Steak is so easy to throw together on busy nights and tastes absolutely amazing. It comes together quickly and only requires a few simple ingredients. It's the ultimate comfort food.
My husband and I were married almost 4 years ago. After we were married, we moved up to a little town called Logan, UT where my husband was going to school.
It took me a few months to find a job and my sweet husband was trying to support us on a part-time job while he was going to school full-time.
I remember being so poor at one point that I decided I would sell my wedding dress to pay our rent. I loved my wedding dress, but realized if I do have any daughters, they will definitely want to wear something of their own rather than my outdated wedding dress.
We drove about an hour away to meet someone who wanted to buy the dress. The couple coming to buy the dress ended up getting lost, so my husband and I found a little diner to eat at in the middle of nowhere.
There weren’t many options, so we used the last of our little stash of money to order two chicken fried steaks. We still laugh about it a few years later and how fun that time of life was even though we were practically destitute.
After 3 and a half years, I finally attempted to make my own chicken fried steak and it was as delicious as I remember.
I love this delicious comfort food, as well as the rest of my family. It comes together quickly and tastes so delicious.
what would be a good seasoning to add to this?
I love my seasonings. This recipe is a very basic recipe, that doesn’t require a lot of seasoning, which is nice, because if you don’t have it on hand, seasonings can get a little pricey.
For this recipe, if you are looking to add spice and more flavor however, you could easily do so. Here are a few spice recommendations:
Seasoned All Season Salt
Any seasoning you would put on steak or your beef
French Onion Soup Mix
Cayenne Pepper (to give it a little kick)

Trim excess fat from from beef. Cut the meat with the grain into 1/2-inch thick slices. Season each piece on both sides with the salt and pepper. Place the flour into a pie pan. Place the eggs into a separate pie pan. Dredge the meat on both sides in the flour. Pound meat to tenderize, until each slice is 1/4-inch thick. Once tenderized, dredge the meat again in the flour, followed by the egg and finally in the flour again. Repeat with all the pieces of meat. Place the meat onto a plate and allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before cooking.
Place enough of the vegetable oil to cover the bottom of a 12-inch skillet and set over medium-high heat. Once the oil begins to simmer, add the meat in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each piece on both sides until golden brown, approximately 4 minutes per side. Remove the steaks to a baking sheet or pan and place into the oven. Repeat until all of the meat is browned.
Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the pan used to cook steaks. Whisk in the flour. Add the chicken broth to the pan. Whisk until the gravy comes to a boil and begins to thicken. Add the milk and whisk until the gravy reaches desired consistency, approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Season to taste, with more salt and pepper, if needed. Serve the gravy over the steaks.
