The perfect combination of crunchy and chewy

I don’t know about you, but I love when my cookies are still a little doughy in the middle. I am team dough eater all the way. Give me all the salmonella.

However, my husband likes his well done, and almost burnt, because he likes to dip them in hot chocolate or milk.

Depending on how you like it, determines how you should bake them. If you like them a little bit more on the doughy side, we recommend baking them for 8 minutes.

If you tend to reach for the more crunchy cookies, we recommend baking them for 10-12 minutes. I watch mine very carefully because they can burn quickly if you aren’t timing them, or keeping a close eye on them.

And if you are stuck in between two textures, bake one pan for 8 minutes and another for 10-11. Debate solved.

Don’t get me wrong, I love cookies and milk, but there are a few holiday drinks, that only come around this time of year, so you have to take advantage of them.

Cranberry Citrus Party Punch: This is the BEST holiday punch recipe. It is so light and refreshing, and full of delicious cranberry flavor. You need to try this recipe.

Nutella Hot Chocolate: If you are anything like me, you like the rich with the rich. I don’t care what anyone says, there is no such thing as too much chocolate, and this hot cocoa, and the cookies, complement each other, perfectly.

  • 2 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 tsp mint extract
  • 15-20 drops green food coloring
  • 1 bag of Andes mints (chopped or broken apart)


  1. Preheat oven 375 degrees. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt and set aside. Unwrap the Andes Mints
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg, milk, and mint extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients and add the green food coloring. Mix until even colored. Last fold in the chopped Andes mints. (I also added some milk chocolate chips... just because I LOVE milk chocolate!)
  3. Put in the refrigerator until the dough is cool.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls.  To make them more rounded when they come out, flatten the balls as you place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Let stand on cookie sheet for 2 minutes before moving them to wire racks to cool.

  1. I made these yesterday for a neighborhood Christmas party and they were a hit, and my boyfriend requested they be added to the holiday dessert rotation. My grocery store doesn't carry Andes for some odd reason, so I used Hershey's dark chocolate mint truffle kisses and they worked wonderfully. Thanks for the great recipe!!
  2. Sounds YUMMY! I love mint and chocolate and I love Andes mints! Is there by any chance a low-fat recipe or one with less sugar or a healthy alternative (not splenda or anything with aspartame in it) by any chance? If not I may just make the cookies as you have the recipe! But I am trying to stick to healthier eating so I thought I would ask. I am unable to watch The Grinch on TV but it is on my list of DVDs to buy when I have a DVD player to watch it on! ;) Thanks so much for sharing the recipe!
    • Andes mints come in a 4.67 ounce box with about 28 mints in the box. You can find them on the candy aisle at the store or during the Holidays they are found by the holiday candy. They are chocolate with a thin green layer in the middle. They have been around for years and years. Hope this helps. :)
  3. Just finished making these for the first time. Couldn't readily find a bag of Andies mints, except for their holiday peppermint bark. So I used an 8oz bag of mint M&M's. Thwy turned out adorable -- extra minty, and the M&M's were various hues of green. So they're the perfect substitute for the Andies!

    I am going to make these for a cookie swap and have a few questions before I begin. Thanks to other comments they answered some of my questions. The recipe calls for a bag of Andes, I could not find a bag to see what the ounces were to compare with the 4.67 oz. could you help me out.
  5. This look wonderful. Mint/chocolate may be my favorite combination of all time. I wonder how it would work out if I incorporated some elements of this recipe into a sugar cookie (the mints, extract, and food coloring) so that I could make cutouts. I've been looking online and they have Grinch cookie cutters. Would love to try it. Has anyone else done something like this?
  6. Just an FYI. I bought the ingredients to make these yesterday. I originally picked up the box of Andes mints from the candy aisle, but then when I got to the baking section a few aisles down, I found a bag of mint andes baking pieces. It was a 10 ounce bag and was cheaper than the 4.67 ounce box I had found in the candy aisle. I'm assuming they taste exactly the same, and they're cheaper, plus they're already chopped so you can skip that step.

    These cookies have it all! Sugar cookie texture, mint and chocolate flavor, festive holiday color. So happy I found this recipe. My one suggestion is to watch the timing very closely. For me 9 mi utes got a perfect color, still chewy in the center. By 10 minutes the outsides got brown. Not terrible looking, but not as perfectly grinchy.
