German Chocolate Fudge

German Chocolate Fudge Six Sisters' Stuff

I have to admit, I was never much of a German Chocolate fan growing up. Now that I’ve aged a little (and seen the error of my ways 😉 ) I LOVE it! I made our German Chocolate Cake Cookies, and decided I wanted to use the delicious topping for some simple chocolate fudge, and it was a HUGE hit!

Ingredients

    Chocolate Fudge
  • 4 cups chocolate chips (I used semi-sweet, but you can use milk chocolate if you prefer)
  • 1 14.5-oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Topping
  • 1 cup evaporated milk (canned)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 egg yolks (beaten slightly)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 13/4 cup coconut
  • 11/4 cup chopped pecans
  • Optional:
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for drizzle on top of fudge)

Instructions

    Fudge
  1. Pour chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter into a microwaveable bowl. Micrwave for 45 seconds, then remove and stir. Continue microwaving in 30 second intervals (stirring in between each one) until mixture is smooth.
  2. Pour chocolate chip mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 9x13" pan and let it cool.
  3. Topping
  4. Mix evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, margarine and vanilla together in a sauce pan. Stir constantly over medium heat until it comes to a slow boil. Cook, stirring constantly until it thickens - about 10 to 11 minutes (it must be cooked that long).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in coconut and pecans.
  6. Cool frosting before spreading on fudge.
  7. You can melt semi-sweet chocolate chips and drizzle over top of topping (optional). Serve in 1x1" squares (they're really rich, but really delicious!)
