Double Chocolate Brownie Cookies Recipe

 These cookies have become a favorite of mine. They almost have the texture of a brownie- perfectly chewy on the outside and soft on the inside- in perfect cookie form.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup shortening (I have found that if you substitute this with anything else, they don't turn out right)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix shortening and sugar together. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well in between eggs, then add vanilla and water.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir flour mixture into shortening/sugar mixture (don't over mix) and add in the chocolate chips.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Let cookies cool for a couple of minutes on baking sheet (about 2-3 minutes) and then move the cookies to wire racks to cool completely.

    I made these today for my husband who is very difficult to please when it comes to desserts. I only had dark brown sugar and semi-sweet chocolate chips so mine had slight variations to your recipe. I also like to chill my dough to keep them from spreading out too much and after some trial and error I found out that I needed to increase the baking time to 12 minutes. They are so good and even my picky husband is raving about them!! They are his new favorite and they were pretty easy to make, so this recipe will be a keeper! Thank you!

    I think sometimes we need to remember that there are popular recipes all over the internet. Recipes are passed through so many hands. Sometimes, when I am looking for a recipe online or want to compare ingredients/instructions for a recipe, I will find the identical recipe with identical ingredients and identical instructions on many different sites. None of them state the original source of the recipe. All Recipes is just a place for people to post their recipe collections. The person that posted this recipe on All Recipes did not cite the original source either. Many of us don't know the original source of some of our favorite recipes as they will many times pass through many hands before we receive them from friends and families or other sources. Many times the original source is lost, ie. some magazine, food companies, etc remove recipes after a while and replace them with others. Camille - I have both or your Six Sisters cookbooks and love them! I also love your site. Thanks for sharing all your families favorite recipes with us!

  3. I love chocolate! I just gave it up for the last 46 days (lent). This may curb my craving for chocolate. I can't wait to try it. I also want to state that I agree with Paige. I don't think we come to a blog site to find original recipes. I believe we assume you have done the hard work in finding the recipes and trying the recipes. I come to your site because I love the fact that I can assume they are good if you say so. Thank you for all that you do!!!!!
