Caramel Apple Crescent Roll Bites

I know this is weird, but I absolutely hate apples!  It isn’t the taste as much as it is the texture.  Even hearing someone else eat an apple gives me chills like nails on a chalkboard!  However, I do love apple pie filling.  When I came across Duncan Hines’ Caramel Apple Pie Filling, I knew I had to give it a whirl!

Serves: 16 crescents

Ingredients

  • 2 (8 ounce) cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 Tablespoons flour
  • 1 (21 ounce) can Duncan Hines Caramel Apple Pie Filling
  • Optional:
  • 4 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.  Roll out crescent dough and separate crescents.  In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and flour until smooth.  Spread one tablespoon of cream cheese filling on each crescent roll.  Drop one tablespoon of apple pie filling at the widest part of each roll.  Roll up each crescent roll starting and the widest end.  Fold over  any extra dough to hold in the filling.  Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.  Roll each crescent roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

    • Hi Tara, that should work. Just don't add too much that it turns runny. It is hard to find the caramel apple pie filling. I haven't seen it in our stores yet this fall. Best of luck adapting your apple pie filling! Let us know how it all turns out. I'm sure others may have a hard time finding the caramel apple pie filling.
  1. I made these tonight with a few, OK a lot, of twists. I found the amount of filling were way too much for the crescent rolls so I made them into little triangular pies, crescent on top and bottom. I also used 2 fresh honey crisp apples finely diced, and some carmel ice cream topping mixed in the apples. The cream cheese mix was the same. Baking time the same. Awesomeness!!
