Do you have a problem with the sour cream breaking? I have always been afraid to use milk products for slowcooking.
Yum!
how many servings does this make? does anybody know? and how much is a serving
This made about 5 servings for us- 2 kid servings and 3 adult servings. Hope that helps!
This is actually the first time I have really used sour cream in my slow cooker- I have not used it in the past because I was afraid of it curdling. But I had absolutely no problems! It was smooth and creamy.
@Carla – be sure to cook on LOW. I’ve learned that cooking with dairy on high will curdle. Meaning, don’t try to short-cut the recipe and cook on high for less time….like I did!
That looks so yummy!

Hi,
Quiet Mom, I’m inviting you to http://www.crockpotking.com!!!
Just had this tonight and we loved it, very easy and delicious!!!
Hi Six Sisters,
I was wondering if you blanch your potatoes before you freeze them. I have had my potatoes turn black and not taste very good.
I made this the othe week. SO GOOD! I added frozen spinach to the crock pot with two hours left. YUMMY! It almost reminded me of an alfredo and it tasted wonderful when we had it the following day for left overs!
Had this tonight all the family loved it. A keeper 🙂 Thanks
Stumbled upon this recipe and will be loading the crockpot before work in the morning. Thanks for the simple recipes…helps out with by busy schedule.
This looks so yummy! Wanted to let you know I featured you on my blog. Have a great day!

Is the (1oz) really the correct packet size to use for the dry ranch mix? The smallest I could find at the store was 12 oz.
I just made this the other night, I made a couple of small changes in how I cooked everything. I didn’t add the bacon at the beginning, I actually waited & cooked the bacon up & then sauted spinach with it & added it in for the last 20 minutes. The only thing that I would do differently would be to only use about 1/2 the packet of Ranch dressing, because the recipe on the package calls for 16 oz of sour cream and in this recipe you are only using 8 oz and everything came out a bit too salty for our taste. We put this over mashed potatoes so it helped some with the salt. otherwise it was tasty!
Jackie, the 1 oz is the weight of the pkg, I used a 12 oz pkg as well. only thing is you might want to only use 1/2 of the ranch packet, because the recipe on the back of the pkg calls for 16 oz sour cream to the entire pkg. In the recipe that is posted you are only using 8 oz sour cream and mine came out a bit too salty. hope this helps
This is delicious! The family loved it!! I doubled the recipe and stirred the cooked noodles into the crock pot and kept it on warm until dinner. I also added milk to make it creamier and to make it not so salty. It was perfect! Thank you!!
I’m out of sour cream! To avoid the market, can anything be substituted, like cream cheese?
We haven’t tried it with cream cheese, so we aren’t sure how that would all turn out!
I used 12oz box of pasta…. and it seems I should have doubled the recipe for the sauce. Its ok nothing spectacular. I’ll make it again with a few tweeks!
Loved this recipe- and so did my picky husband, so he asked that it be added to the rotation. 🙂
Thank you for all the great recipes. I struggle to find food blogs that I can relate to as a busy person with a full time job. Lots of yummy things without the intimidation of a lot the recipes out there! Keep up the good work ladies!
Tasty, but a little too rich to do too often. No problems with the recipe, though!
Would you be able to turn this into a freezer meal? If so, how would you do it?
Would plain greek yogurt work in place is sour cream?
We haven’t tried it in this recipe, but Plain yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream.
Loved this.
Actually had very few of the items listed so improvised a bit
instead of sour cream and cream of chicken, I used a mixture of greek yogurt, cream cheese, and milk. I added spices and flour shown in the “homemade cream of chicken” a little water to even out the thickness.
then used maybe half the called for ranch and added homegrown green onions.
So, so good.
I actually got a second serving out of my husband, who lets be honest, is the real cook of the house and usually makes excuses to why he isn’t hungry on the nights I cook. (ha)
This was delicious! To make it go further and make 2 meals I cooked 12 oz of pasta instead of 8 oz and dumped it in the crock pot after the sauce was finished cooking and mixed it all together. Will make again! Very easy! 5 stars!
Can I substitute crumbled bacon? I’M GUESSING SO , LOL kinda dumb ? But how much would be 2 strips though?
If using crumbled bacon, add about 1/4 cup. Unless you really love bacon, throw in a little more! 🙂
Hi, I love this recipe and make it often. Curious to know if I can substitute boneless pork chops instead of chicken breasts? I’m thinking I could but wanted to check. Great great recipe!
I think boneless pork chops would work great in place of the chicken. Let us know how it all turns out!
Can this recipe be cooked in an Instant Pot?
I made this for dinner tonight and it is amazing! I love crock pot meals, especially easy ones like this! It’s a hit in my house and will be added to our list of recipes.
Our family really enjoyed this recipe
This was very rich and salty for my family’s taste. Truthfully we didn’t eat it all. We did find that it was better over a baked potato than pasta, for us. I enjoyed it almost as a poutine over fries. But it was really really salty. And so super creamy. If I did it again I’d try to make adjustments for those.
