My cute kiddos are probably the pickiest eaters on the planet! Not only is it frustrating, but I worry about them getting all of the nutrients they need to be healthy and strong! The one thing my kids will down without any hesitation is milk (thank goodness!). We’ve teamed up with MilkLife.com for The National Milk Life Campaign’s Back-to-School program!
We all know that milk builds strong bones and teeth, but recent studies show that it is so much more than that! Not only is drinking more reduced-fat milk linked to a healthy weight, it has a lot of health benefits as well! In fact, milk is the top food source of calcium in our diets. Milk also provides B vitamins for energy, high-quality protein for lean muscle, vitamin A for a healthy immune system and five bone-building nutrients including calcium and vitamin D.
Between running around at recess, playing with friends after school and having soccer practice at night, my kids need all the nutrients they can get! Even though they are picky eaters, I’ve found ways to incorporate milk into their diets to help them reap the benefits of drinking milk.
For breakfast, my kids love having “chocolate milkshakes” for breakfast. All of my kids love them and think it is so cool they get to have chocolate for breakfast! Each smoothie is filled with plenty of protein from peanut butter and milk and is loaded with other nutrients!
(makes 4 servings)
– 4 banans
– 4 Tablespoons peanut butter
– 4 Tablespoons of cocoa powder
– 4 Tablespoons of honey
– 2 cups of milk
– 2 cups of ice
Blend together all ingredients and enjoy!
Lunch time is usually the craziest time of day at our house. My oldest son is in afternoon kindergarten, so we are usually eating lunch in a hurry to get out of the house and to school on time. As long as my kids eat something semi-nutritious for lunch I am happy! 😉
I don’t know about your kids, but mine come home from school with quite the appetite! Occasionally, we have something sweet like cookies and milk for an after school snack but we usually have something pretty light so the kids are still hungry by dinnertime! If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to cookies, my kids think these no-bake energy bites taste just like cookie dough! Serve them with a glass of milk, and everyone’s happy!
Growing up, we always had milk to drink for dinner. I don’t know why, but we never had any other beverage with our dinner! I do the same thing with my little family and it just seems like nothing goes better with a home cooked meal than a cool glass of milk!
Our dinners may not always be perfect, but I can always feel good about giving my kids milk!
