Once upon a time, when we were all a bit younger, our sister Elyse was hungry. Our mom was gone and I was left in charge of babysitting my five younger sisters, which was sometimes more than my teenage self could handle.
Elyse wanted not just any snack, but a warm roll.
Unfortunately, there were no homemade rolls in your house, except for some frozen dough balls in the freezer.
At this point in our lives, we had barely learned how to turn the oven on, so baking them was out of the question- but that wasn’t about to stop Elyse.
She pulled that dough ball out of the freezer, placed it in the microwave, set the timer for about 5 minutes (because that seemed like a good amount of time to cook a frozen dough blob), and waited for her warm roll to finish cooking.
Well, right before the frozen roll was finished, the dough started to smoke and then it burst into flames.
I am not sure what made that little dough ball spontaneously combust, but her plans of a warm roll were ruined and she had to explain to our parents why the microwave now had a dark spot in the middle of it. 😉
My luck with homemade rolls has been about the same as Elyse’s . . . they always seem to be burned or just don’t turn out right. I finally made the leap and got myself a Bosch, which is supposed to be the key ingredient to making amazing homemade bread. I have mastered one bread recipe and decided to give rolls a try. For a first attempt, I was pretty impressed! This recipe is so easy and the rolls are delicious.
