We had a comment on our Facebook page the other night that said something along the lines of, “There is no way that you girls eat the recipes that you post. If you did, you would be heavily overweight.”
Granted, we LOVE our desserts, but we also try to share ideas for healthy family dinners and side dishes (with a few not-so-healthy ones mixed in there too) . . . and we were taught at a very early age the importance of being active (our cute mom has worked out for an hour a day since I can remember! And, I just happen to be married to a physical therapist who’s career revolves around exercise!). So . . . yes, we actually do eat all the recipes that we post! In moderation, of course, but we do eat them. Someone has to test them to make sure they are blog-worthy!! Ha ha!
Want to know our other secret when it comes to making all these desserts? We are constantly sharing with our neighbors! I usually make a dessert every Sunday and after I have photographed it, I post to my personal Facebook page that the first person to comment gets the rest of my dessert. It has become a fun weekly ritual for my neighborhood on Sunday nights and that way everyone gets to enjoy the goods!
So to our concerned commenter, I promise that we do eat every recipe that we make- even all the desserts. And then we work it off with a good workout or share it with friends and family. 🙂
And as for this White Texas Sheet Cake, it’s PERFECT for feeding a crowd . . . or lots of hungry neighbors. You will quickly become one of the most popular people in the neighborhood if you make this and share it!
White Texas Sheet Cake
1 cup butter
1 cup water
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
Cream Cheese Frosting
8 ounces cream cheese
1/4 cup butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Place butter and water in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, almond extract, salt, and baking soda. Mix until completely smooth. Pour batter into a greased 10x15x1″ baking pan (I just used a cookie sheet).
Bake for 20-22 minutes or until cake is golden brown. Let cool for 20-30 minutes.
Top with your favorite frosting. I recommend our Cream Cheese Frosting – For the frosting cream the butter, cream cheese, and vanilla together. Then add the powdered sugar. Add more or less powdered sugar depending on how thick you want your frosting to be.
And add sprinkles if you so desire!
Makes 24-28 servings (depending on how large you cut the pieces).
