One of my favorite memories from growing up is heading over to our grandma’s house for Christmas dinner. Her house seriously smelled amazing!
On Christmas morning she would whip up a pot of this spiced cider and let it simmer all day long. I loved being in her kitchen and sampling all her amazing food- she is an incredible cook!
I recently made a huge pot of this for my family and my dad happened to stop by- as soon as he walked in, he knew that his mom’s cider was simmering on the stove. I love how something as simple as a smell can bring back so many happy memories!
So, if you are like me and are just trying to endure the cold winter, whip up a batch of this warm cider. I promise that it will instantly put you in a good mood.
Grandma’s Warm Spider Cider
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon whole cloves
3 whole cinnamon sticks
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 gallon apple cider
Dump cider into a large stock pot (or even a large crock pot). Place on the stove over low heat.
Place salt, spices, and brown sugar on a square of clean cheesecloth (or any clean thin cotton fabric). Pull up edges and tie with a string to form a bag. Place bag in the cider and simmer for at least 20 minutes (but you can let it simmer for a couple hours- that’s what makes your house smell really good!).
If you cook this in a crock pot, cook on low for about 2-3 hours, then keep warm.
Refrigerate leftovers and reheat as needed.
Makes about 16 (1 cup) servings.
