Growing up, Sundays were one of my favorite days of the week because we were usually all home together as a family and mom always made a HUGE and delicious dinner. I still remember the first time that my husband Jared joined my family for Sunday dinner. For the most part, our family has great manners and we know when to be polite. However, we do have one weird family tradition . . . we have the Sunday dinner roll toss.
Instead of calmly passing the rolls around the dinner table, my mom pulls them out of the oven and each of us have to “catch” our roll when she tosses it to you. I really have no idea how or why this even started, but it’s just one of those quirky family dinner things that we do. My poor husband was so caught off-guard by our weirdness that he wasn’t quite sure how to react! Ha ha! Now, 9 years later, he is one of the best roll catchers around!
Even though it was such a weird thing, it makes me look back at memories of dinner with my family and remembering how much fun we have together. Now that I have my own kids, I hope that I can make some fun and silly memories with them that they will remember. We don’t have a roll toss at our house (I can see my kids wanting to throw and catch all their food), but we play funny little games and ask silly questions to keep dinner time a happy time.

If you are looking for a quick and easy dinner, look no further. These sandwiches are perfect for hot summer days because you don’t even have to turn your oven on. My family absolutely loved them (in fact, I was editing the picture today and my husband glanced over my shoulder and said, “Oooo . . . I loved those! We should have them again!”).
- 2 cups chicken, cooked and shredded (I used a rotisserie chicken)
- ½ cup ranch dressing
- ¼ cup hot buffalo wing sauce (I like Frank's RedHot sauce)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 celery stalks, finely diced
- ¼ cup onion, finely diced
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- In a large bowl, mix together chicken, ranch dressing, buffalo sauce, cream cheese, celery, onion and garlic powder. Add salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve on buns and top with your favorite sandwich fixings (such as tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, pickles, etc).
- Store leftovers (if you have any!) in a covered container in the fridge.
