I am lucky enough to work with the cub scouts in my church and the boys I work with LOVE treats! I try and have some sort of treat every week and I knew they would love this Candy Cane Chex Mix. It was a huge success and I am officially the coolest leader ever.... so they say... until next week when I make them do something they really don't want to do!
Candy Cane Muddy Buddies
Ingredients
5 cups rice Chex cereal
1 bag (10 ounces) Candy Cane Hershey Kisses, melted
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup crushed candy canes (optional)
Directions
Add the powdered sugar to a plastic bag.
Put the Chex cereal in a large bowl.
Melt the Candy Cane Hershey Kisses in the microwave for 45 seconds and stir. Microwave another 30 seconds or until it is all the way melted. Stir until smooth
Pour the melted Candy Cane Hershey Kisses over the Chex cereal and mix until the cereal is well coated. Add the cereal to the plastic bag with the powdered sugar mixture and shake until the cereal is completely covered.
Then add the crushed Candy Cane pieces to the bag and shake to coat the muddy buddies.
( My kids don't like candy canes very much so I only put crushed candy canes on half the batch. It still tasted amazing without the candy cane pieces!)

ReplyDeleteBesides the fact that this sounds delicious, I have to say I love that you say you're lucky enough to work with the cub scouts. :) We had such a hard time filling that calling when I was in the Primary presidency and I so didn't get it. I too would LOVE that calling. :)
ReplyDeleteYum!! What a great flavor twist for the holidays!
ReplyDeleteHow big of a batch does this make? I have a few Christmas parties coming up over the next week, so wanted to make multiple batches, but didn't want to go overboard.
ReplyDeleteIt makes about 6 cups. Hope this helps!!!

Curious, how do/did you crush your candy canes? I end up pulverizing most of them or leaving big chunks. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My hubby loves muddy buddies all times of year.
ReplyDeleteI used a plastic bag and rolling pin. Some chunks were big and others were tiny. It gives it character right? Ha ha hope this helps!

I can't wait to give this recipe a try. I love peppermint and chocolate!
ReplyDeleteHow long will it keep fresh for in zipper bags? It is the 19th and I want husband to being some to work tomorrow but want it to still be fresh for christmas the 25th
ReplyDeleteIt tastes great after a week. To be honest, it doesn't really last that long around our house. But if you had a secret stash, it should be fine for a week in a good ziploc bag. Merry Christmas! -The Six Sisters
