Homemade Turkey Meatball Subs Recipe

My family loves meatballs.  I usually take the easy route and buy some that are precooked and frozen.  I stepped out of my comfort zone and made some homemade meatballs.  They were so easy and definitely worth a little extra time!

Homemade Turkey Meatball Subs Recipe:
(Serves 8)
1 pound ground turkey
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon Montreal steak spice
1 jar marinara sauce
16 slices provolone cheese
8 buns or sandwich rolls
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  In a large bowl, mix together turkey, bread crumbs, basil, oregano, parsley, garlic salt, Parmesan cheese, egg, olive oil, and steak spice.  Form meat mixture into 1-1/2″ meatballs and place on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 15 minutes, or until cooked through.
Slice buns in half and place on a baking tray.  Place two slices of provolone cheese on the top half of each bun.  Preheat oven to broil and lightly toast buns until golden brown and cheese has melted.
Warm marinara sauce in a large saucepan over low-medium heat or in the microwave until heated through.
Top the  bottom half of each toasted bun with 3-4 meatballs, cover in marinara sauce and replace the top half of each bun.

    Worked wonderfully.My only issue was after baking them for 30 minutes it didn’t seem done. I took them out the other and fried them in olive oil for less then a minute. Not as healthy as with the oven but hey at least its not ground beef.

    Came across this recipe and thought I would give it a try. I was blown away with how delicious and moist these were! I have to say that being my first time making homemade meatballs I was a bit skeptical on how they would turn out but found them super easy and quick to make! For sure my go to recipe!

    These are the best turkey meatballs I have ever eaten. I always make a triple batch and freeze two batches to have later for spaghetti and meatballs, Hoisin Asain meatballs over rice (awesome recipe from Pinterest) and even for meatball appetizers if we are having company. These are always in my freezer for a wonderful, quick meal. Another bonus is ground turkey is cheaper than ground beef, but my family enjoys them just as much as beef meatballs. Thank you so much for this recipe!
