German Chocolate Cookie bottom
1 German Chocolate cake mix
2/3 C butter flavor shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. water (that’s all)
Mix together until well blended. Roll into 1 inch balls. Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Let cool.
German Chocolate frosting
1 C evaporated milk (canned)
1 C sugar
3 egg yolks (beaten slightly)
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 C coconut
1 1/4 C chopped pecans
Mix evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, margarine and vanilla together in a sauce pan. Stir constantly over medium heat until it comes to a slow boil. Cook, stirring constantly until it thickens – about 10 to 11 minutes (it must be cooked that long). Remove from heat and stir in coconut and pecans. Cool frosting before spreading on cookies.
You can melt semi-sweet chocolate chips and drizzle over top of frosting (optional).
This frosting recipe will also frost a 9 x 13 cake.

Those look mouth watering! What is a square of margarine? I’m assuming maybe a fourth pound (half cup) but maybe too much?

Those look amazing! My hubs loves german chocolate cake so I will totally have to try these!
These were so good. My cookies stayed soft they were just a little flat. May have been something I did or pan I used. For the frosting I added 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch to the milk and only used 1 cup each of the coconut and pecans. These were so good together. I loved them!
